So I have my Wii, I'm online, and I want to buy a game on the Virtual Console. I was pretty much all set to buy Super Mario 64 until I started searching what was available. I had forgotten about Star Fox 64.

There's no easy way for me to pick one over the other. I didn't have a Nintendo 64, so I never owned either game, but I did play both quite a bit with friends. And each game has their own strong points.

    Super Mario 64
    -revolutionized platform gaming
    -best(?) Mario game ever
-120 Stars = lots of mileage for my $10

    Star Fox 64
    -fast-paced shooting action
-multiple paths, medals, expert mode, multiplayer = more replay value
    -DO A BARREL ROLL! :D

IGN's reviews gave no indication of anything wrong with the games (like Mario Kart 64's loose steering), except that Star Fox has no rumble (not a deal breaker for me). The only reason I can think of to not buy Mario 64 is that I'm still hoping to get Mario Galaxy and getting both games might feel repetitive (not a guarantee). The only downside to Star Fox 64 is that I've seen/played it beginning to end a few times, but that never stopped me from enjoying it.

And please don't say "get both". While I have the money, I'd rather save some for actual Wii games (which I'm still not sure if I'm getting from relatives), 25th GI Joes, or Transformers. Or even save it for supplies and food when I go back to school (what a concept!).

This is the way I look at it. You're right. You will get your Mario Fix from Galaxy, so why not have an AWESOME space shooter to play, and get M64 another day. Almost like, why buy two RPGS at the same time, when you can get a good RPG and focus on it, and get a shooter to let loose on.

edit: and Starfox never gets old, so you will definitely have a little variety there.

edit 2: Tracks is totally gay :D

Okay. I'm going with Star Fox. I should have listened to myself the moment I thought of the potential repetitiveness of two Mario games. Not to mention that Mario Galaxy is on sale for $37 at Target this week.

Wow, this thread lost it's purpose pretty quickly.

Well it's a good thing anyway, because that sale at Target is Prime!

I was going to suggest Star Fox, and tell you that you'd be just as well off finding a copy of Super Mario 64 DS.

I'm hoping Target will still have SMG after I get of work this evening since 1) I didn't get it for Christmas and 2) $37 is a steal.

Each Game = 1000 Wii Points
Each Card = 2000 Wii Points.

I know you said not to say it, so I'll let you figure it out.

Unless of course you're buying your points online, then nevermind.

Starfox 64. Possibly the best shooter ever made. Though at a close second is Sin and Punishment.
