Man you think a person would go completely out of his mind due to this.

Gotta say I have a hard time believing he’s actually gone 33 consecutive years without sleep but man.

That's weird. Last time I heard of somebody having that kind of insomnia, it killed them. Too long without sleep, will usually cause permanent personality changes, too.

Man that some ol' bs. i didnt believe it when i saw it on torrentspy and I don't believe it here. Unless some acredited medical group does a scientific study on this guy and observes him for a week i wont believe this is true.

The truth is out there. But perhaps not in this thread. I would need scientific proof that this is true. Personaly I don't believe that it is possible to go without sleep for that amount of time.

    I'd say BS.

I read studies about sleep when I was doing A-level Biology, where they kept people awake for a week. First brain function goes, as well as general crankiness, then toward the end you hallucinate then shut down.

But you never know. It could be that this Vietnamese guy underwent a face change operation, and one of the side effects is the insomnia. An hour in the dream machine keeps him sane.

I'm not sure it's BS. Remember, this is in Asia. Weird shit is common place on that continent. Well, more so than here. Like the many Indian holy men that don't feel pain.

Maybe he is hallucinating but it has the same effect as dreams during REM sleep for normal people so he ends up feeling refreshed after having a hallucination.

I went about 49 hrs a month ago without sleep.

Working overnights is occasionally a killer on my sleep cycle.

Yea, that's probably it. I heard he's got all these diamonds in his face and whatnot.

It's not completely insane, as different people do have different sleep cycles.

My mom's fiancee only sleeps four hours a night, and it works out for him. It's a recognised sleep condition, though I can't think of the name at the moment.

Me, I need my full nine or I'm cranky all day.

It may not be bs, but we are not getting the whole story. There are a number of other factors that could be used to replace the benefits sleeping.

I remember reading about a naturally produced chemical called DMT. This is produced in the brain during REM sleep. I believe DMT in itself is one of the most hallucenogic chemicals known to man. Produced naturally, and it helps you process information while you sleep. I think that is why dreams are so messed up sometimes.

This man may be able to produce that outside of REM sleep. I am guessing through meditation. Or he could even be taking hallucenogens. He may not be getting conventional sleep, but he has to have some moment of rest both physically and mentally.

It's gotta be BS. You're brain needs REM sleep in order to function properly or else you'll go insane and start to hallucinate. It's true.

You aint kidding, although I don't remember anything after 42 hrs. Went a week with only 16hrs of sleep all week.... and that is about all I remember of that week.

Yeah, this is definitely BS... some people do get by with as few as 3-4 hours of sleep a night, but having NONE and still being alive after two weeks is BS...

I'm not willing to discount this as false. Maybe the fever he got destroyed or altered some sleep-controlling part of his brain.

It could happen, we don't fully understand the brain as of yet.
