Thanks man! Very excited to make this a reality & move-on to Ravage.......and a few people are already asking about a VCR-Soundwave, but that's on the back-burner til I figure out how well the tapes themselves do, so first things first, lol......... -But I do need to start researching vintage-VCRs though, as I can't practically make it happen unless it's one of those old top-loaders where you manually put it in & out, can't be the newer ones that sucks it in, will never get it back out. Any input on those from anyone seeing this would be great, as I'm not too sure where to start and I don't want to destroy a collector's-version vintage-VCR (if there is such a thing), and I need one that's pretty easy to find and fits the look. If not, I may just have to end up biting the bullet and finding a newer, sleek-looking VCR and just figure out a way to open the top case-shell to put the tape-in.

Anyway's, here's a little tidbit of an update, decided on the leg-designs this weekend to make the big-cut to help form the legs, which will resemble and pivot-down just like the original-toy. Trying to fit as much articulation as practical to help bring the bird-mode to life, so the legs will also be able to rotate outwards for a more natural-look. Also figuring out a way to have at least one little talon pivot out of the ends of the feet.

Progress has been an incremental slow-grind, but hands are not idle, things are moving-along nicely! Laserbeak now has little optional pivoting "talons" on his feet, if you choose to display his feet with a little more detail OR retracted & blunt like the original-toy. I've also added back the clear-half of the tape-reels to give him the most realistic-appearance possible in tape-mode.....will also finish the reels-off with some strips of tape put into position & pointing up to give the illusion the tape is still actually wound, connected & running through the guides......details, details, details.....

-After the legs were done, it was time to start working (squeezing) his little laser-assemblies in there.......He NEEDED his self-contained guns, but space is tight! Very tight, as in, parts literally touching/grazing each other in tape-mode......but I deliberately did it this way to pack as much gun-barrel assembly in there as possible. Went through MANY designs & trial-and-error before I finally found one that worked and looked good in bird-mode. I wasn't happy with just stationary/fixed/stubby-barrels, I wanted EXTENDING-barrels that enhanced the guns even more to maximize threat in bird-mode.

Hit a few snags & spent a couple days on the gun-part til I finally got it resolved and now I can finally move-on to the head, just waiting on some parts in the mail so I can get started on the wiring for his eyes. So essentially, his laser-assemblies are attached to his legs and will pivot twice, over and forward to lay right on top his back and point-forward, just like the toy, totally self-contained.

All of Laserbeak's finished-parts were finally re-assembled yesterday and tested-out for functionality, transformation is smooth, simple and came together nicely as planned! Guns extend, retract and pack-away nicely in tape-mode.....and he transforms in just 2 more steps than the original-toy, because of the self-contained weapons and top tape-flaps on the wings. A few other minor-tweaks & adjustments were made to ensure the best handling-experience & aesthetics, and now it's time to move-on to the head.

Guns, head, outer-shell & other details will still need to be painted when finished, but that's the easy-part. Next challenge will be to get the LEDs, batteries & switch wired-into the head for the eyes, work-out the transformation of the head and top it off with the little flip-up head-camera like he had in the movie & cartoon. Finally gettin him back together and seeing him transform & assembled for the first time yesterday was pretty exciting & motivating after a few days of frustrating trial & error, but he's coming out the kinks & really starting to take-shape nicely & look like what I'd envisioned. -So as I'm in the home-stretch of Laserbeak, I'm already thinkin about Ravage and how I'm gonna go about that little guy now, very excited about his new tape-line....and of course people are already wanting a VCR-"Soundwave", but that's waaaaaaaay down the line. Anyways, enjoy these latest-pics.

Oh absolutely! No way I'm takin it this far without an opening-beak, will also have a poseable neck and pivoting-head, as well as light-up eyes and little flip-up panel on top his head with the tiny camera inside just like the movie/cartoon.

Functioning camera? :lol  Kidding! Incredible work man.

At this point I actually wouldn't put that past you haha

Is Ravage gonna be based on the G1 cassette too? Can't wait to see how he turns out :thumb

Ha! Well ya never know, I mean, they're packin cameras into tiny stick-on coat-hangers these days, so anything's possible. And yes, Ravage will be based on both the G1-cassette & simple-transformation that he had, and hopefully I can find a creative-way to pack his self-contained weapons on his legs in there too. Already got the original-toy here for reference. :D

I think you're dead right to go with the original transformation schemes. Keep it true to the 80s, just like the medium you're using!

Because realistically if Masterpiece Ravage had been designed to be bigger they would've been able to make him look a whole lot better. And coming up with your own transformation is a whole other kettle of fish altogether.

Now how cool would that be to see this inspired & implemented into the sequels!! Wonder what they'd make Soundwave into and how they'd handle mass-shifting dynamics. :lol

That prototype they teased in the TF-episode of Netflix's "The Toys That Made Us" was actually what inspired me to do this!! I've plans to do Ravage & Ratbat next (yet to be determined depending on demand/popularity), but if I do any humanoid-type figures it'll likely be Frenzy and/or Rumble with built-in pile-drivers. It was really hard to tell what was goin on with that prototype they showed in those few seconds, but it looked like a very basic transformation similar to Soundwave/Blaster, and it appeared the arm had been detached or broken-off during the developmental-stages but never materialized.

That's amazing! Also +1 for using the soundtrack from the Transporners in your video.
