I was not sure if we had one of these threads here, but after doing more and more research on some of the G1's and some of the other series, I keep running into more and more variations. I don't mean variations between two different series either, I'm only talking about 1 series at a time. Things like missing numbers, paint markings, glass (windshield) colors, weapon differences, rubber or plastic wheels, and things of that nature only, and on the same toy from one series only. To be clear or give an example on this, I do not mean we should post a variation from two different series. I think the variations should be kept to 1 series at a time only, so don't compare a G1 Blitzwing to a Transformers Animated series Blitzwing (when they come out) because thats not a variation. Example: You find a TFTM (Transformers the Movie) Barricade with missing numbers on the car, when more often then not the numbers are showing on the car, or one more quick example, the paint variation of the same Transformer from the Transformers the movie series. Example of a bad post: Just going back to what I said before, comparing two Barricades from 2 different series, a Knock off, or a custom. These are clearly not a factory variation. (Side note, avoid posting Takara and Hasbro variations, but feel free to post Hasbro vs. Hasbro or Takara vs. Takara) We can even take a head count on these if anyone was willing to help out and that way we can confirm if more of these Transformers just have variations or errors.
What about the Premium movie toys? they are obviously variants of the same toys and from Hasbro, but clearly an intentional one.
If you're counting factory errors, they are unique but are gonna give you a REALLY long list in the end.
Just as long as you compare one toy to the same exact toy from the same exact series. That way we can get a better head count on true variations. Oh and the reason I posted this was to keep it on this site for this forums fans, so lets keep it to TF2005 only. This will also give the members here a place to review variations without having to search the web. Also, a long list of Variations will only happen if people follow the rules to posting. I collect Hot Wheels and we all know how many variations they have and they have been around since the late 1960's. A example of that is the Ferrari 333sp, they made 8 variations of that so far but they also made that car in different series. Thats why I think we should only compare the Transformers Variations to one series at a time and one toy at a time. Again a quick example of what we don't need: Takara vs. Hasbro, Series differences. A good example: box variations, glass variations, weapon, and paint variations, wheel and tire compound variations, and things of that nature. I think in the long run as this thread builds we can get a more accurate head count on true variations per series, and really that will be the only way to get a true head count on variations. If we follow that, then the list wont grow 100 miles long either.
I dunno... why not just get that site posted as a link somewhere on here? It's the most comprehensive site there is, and really the end-all authority for known variations... unique factory errors really aren't the same thing, but still neato.
Like I said, to keep members from having to go to some other site. The more information this site has, the more people will come to use it and the less you have to look around on the web for what you're looking for. This is not a debate, if you don't like this idea, don't post. If you like the idea lets get to it...
I don't have a problem with the idea, I was just a bit miffed why bother reiterating information that is so readily and comprehensively available...
Also I think its harder to read something like that it a forum. Since you will have a new variation then like 10 comments from users. So the thread just gets huge and most importantly unorganized. At least the web page has a nice structure, so if you want to see if you have a new variation, a web page is easier to navigate/navigate.
It wont be hard, all we do is post the info, then every month or so update the list. I belong to a few diecast sites, and its easy but again, as long as people compare the toys to the same toy from the same series. Its kinda fun and for those who care about value or maybe even how rare a version is, and it does come in kinda handy. Sorry you get miffed so easy, but if you don't like it you can avoid this thread. All I need is a complete list from the first series we want to start on, then we can edit the variations right next to the name of each figure. Also, pics and purchase location (what country) might come in handy for future ref.
I understand your intention, but it's just doing work already done !. There are several variations of one toy from one line - that also be depending on which country it was/is sold. E.g for Jetfire there are many variations, likewise with Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, Jazz, Hoist, Ultra Magnus, Skywarp and variations of minibots is just mindblowing. Many of those variations are listed on the site linked to previously. Also making a thread in no alphabetical order for year/series/factions etc will make the thread real messy. It's not that I don't like the idea... but I just don't think people will use it, they want to find information fast and easily and not search through a thread.
G1 Wheeljack has some very interesting though minor variations between the early Takara Japan mold (with circle around stamping) and the hasbro/takara mold (i.e. depression inside the cockpit/seat). I have both variations and can post a couple of pics if anyone's interested.
This is how the thread will work. Members can post known variations. Then the complete list will be made up in order for each series, I will be working on that this week and probably into next week. Then I will update the description of each variation next to each figures name. Its really pretty easy. The only time involved will be on my part making up the list (help would be nice and a lack of crying about the thread would be even better again its simple if you don't like the thread don't read it) Yes if you have pics of 2 Takra versions with variations and or 2 Hasbro variations of him. Otherwise we want to keep it by series from either Hasbro or Takara. Just so it stays simple.
Sounds good sure, as long as the same rule for all series is applied. That we only compare a toy to its self for variations.
Ok, Question for G1 Soundwave owners. Whats does it say under his battery cover? This is what mine says, and I wanna know what version is more hard to come across. click pic. Takara with dates.
