Well, he'd take a large portion of his movies budget and pocket it for himself, so he's kinda a giant asshat regardless

I actually read that of the five matches he agreed to that he won all of them. However, he was also supposed to do a fight on Attack of the Show that he bowed out of after he found out the guy they were going to have him fight was a student of Muy Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Seems he only agreed or challenged people he was sure he'd beat.

I mean, that's fair...all the random internet-asshole armchair-critics could've done the same once they knew HE meant business. And GOOD FOR HIM for taking them on.

But going up against a trained MMA fighter? Haha, FUCK THAT NOISE. I'm OUT, yo!

    Makes sense to me.

Well, it's kind of cowardly to fight guys you know you'll have no issues with but back out as soon as a real challenger shows up though. But, hey, it's Uwe Boll we're talking about so I can't say it's surprising. Great media stunt though.

    Is it unfair or cowardly?

He was a public figure and they were relative nobodies. Especially after his first match, I'm sure THEY had a better idea of what they were up against than HE did.

And once he knew he was outmatched he had the good sense to bow out rather than be humiliated.

    No shame in that!

It says in the article that
The director also addressed how he has been self-financing for over a decade now, saying "I never had people giving me money." Last year Boll launched his third crowdfunding campaign, which failed to get the support he was seeking.

Basically Hollywood figured out his scheme and stopped giving him money, and most fans aren't stupid enough to fund him via kickstarter. So he's basically "retiring" because no one will give him money anymore.

No honor in that either. But, again, Uwe Boll so I'm not surprised.

Wasn't the guy he refused to fight Seanbaby from Cracked? That's my recollection.

If the only rebuttal he can conjur to their criticism of his movies is to challenge them to a fight then I'd say he's the one with the bigger problem.

Depending on your philosophy in martial arts, there is shame in that. He also fought five others before backing down himself, so unless there was some kind of battle royale going on the other four had to know they were in for a challenge after the first fellow got trounced and yet they still backed promise to meet him in the ring. And who's to say Seanbaby (I swear it was him) would have beaten him anyway? If Boll is a boxer then I'd assume the bouts would be done per the modernised Marquess of Queensberry rules so that means all his expertise other than his fists would be disqualified anyway.

So yeah, Boll is kind of the biggest asshole here, not the only one, just the biggest. Mind if he's that good and still feels he's got it in him, maybe he should take a stab at pro or semi-pro boxing since it's clear he has measurable talent there.

I don't want to sound happy about someone giving up on a profession they have enjoyed for over fifteen years, but this is an exception. The guy has made some of the worst movies I've ever seen, and he permanently damaged video game movies in the eyes of many. The best movie he has made is only not terrible. I don't even find them bad in a funny way. Throw in the fact that he abused a German tax loophole to profit from many of his early flops and can't take criticism, and this sounds even better.

    I've seen parts of Bloodrayne.
    That's about it.
I feel quite fortunate that I have never been 'forced' to watch anything I didn't want.

    "Cites economics of filmmaking."

Was this not the same guy who purposely made flops to exploit a loophole to make money?

What did the caps lock key ever do to you? :(

From what I've heard he used every Canadian and German film making tax credit or incentive he could to get movies made.
