Can't be sure but that seems a little thin, I'd use .060 inch, but definitely buy a few different thicknesses just in case. It's pretty cheap and you can even buy them in variety packs of different thicknesses.

The montana spray paint has held up quite well. I gave all the hands a light sanding with 600 grit to help the paint stick. You just need to make sure that you don't have directly touching/rubbing plastics during transformation. If you do, do some extra sanding around the area to be sure you have clearance for the hand (and a bit of paint) to fold away when you go to alt mode.

To be honest I put off finishing Longhaul and Mixmaster because, with the momentum of 3rd party stuff, I was sure I super G1 toon accurate set of constructicons was going to come out- like any day. And now somehow, it's been years and that still hasn't happened! (Sorry the Toyworld set is not close enough for me). Maybe Fanstoys will get around to it, but probably not for a few more years. And I've learned to stop counting on Takara these days.
So, maybe I should just finish the last two haha.
    :)

With all this work here i love it but i could never do this on my own. I seen this thread from another thread that popped up recently with this thread highlighted to check out. So glad i checked out this thread with pics cause wow it's got some amazing work here. I could never duplicate it on mine since i don't know how to customize anything.

Simply fantastic work! I’ll be implementing some of these mods once I’m done with my Predaking projects!

Small update - finally got around to upgrading Linghauls hands. Same process - cut the stock hands out of the existing horearms, cut out a styrene shape to fill the hollw inner side, and then epoxied KFC MP10 hands. Ended up painting the whole lower arm in gunmetal fie toon accuracy, which is a bit LOL since UW Longhaul is like the least toon-accurate Longhaul ever... Guess I will finish up with Mixmaster's soon as he's the most straightforward.

You sure can! Though I don’t recommend it for Longhaul, otherwise he’s going to look like the tiny-hands guy from the burger king commercial.
I just chose to use the fans style Datsun hands on most of the guys since I prefer their slightly chunkier/blocker look, for the construction designs.

Oh and regarding their original guns-
No, they can’t hold them well with articulated hands, but the fix is easy! I’ll post a description how you can quickly modify the handles later today.

Awesome dude. looks great! Glad to see you're trying this stuff out!
Yeah the foldable crane is the best - and in now you can back devastator back up against the wall, on a shelf, since he doesn't have that thing protruding so far back.

So with the guns that this set came with, they all have the standard cylindrical peg. I took a sheet of 100 grit sandpaper, layed it on a table top, and made a flat spot along the back side of each of those handles. Next I superglued a little square of styrene onto each of those flatspots.
Should make sense on this pic:
The styrene pegs can now register in the slots of the articulated hands and keep them in place.

They all hold their guns comfortably now.

And the awesome thing about Scrapper's shoulder joints is he can double-wield his gun.

Going to spray all the guns with the gunmetal I used on Longhaul later.

Yep, you can see in the shot of Bonecrusher as he has the sideswipe hands, and the slot peg is basically the same as the Datsun hands.
