Never said it had to be one or the other...I'm a total G1 fanboy. But I grew up with both so I love both. This is the Unpopular Opinions thread so I'm not starting any arguments. But I think Beast Wars and its premise is almost as great as G1.

Yep, totally agree! One isn't inherently better than the other, as it's all personal preference.

My only major issue with beast figures is when they're massive fucking shellformers such as Break.

"Little" hardly counts for "where G1 is all there is" anymore.

I was thinking about something similar, but with all the combiner members the same size (sort of like Devy) but interchangeable (like "scramble city), including the torso (even if it took two to make a torso) then because they're headmasters, any one of the heads could plug in and take control of combined mode, not just whoever was making the shoulders. Or there could be an additional head just for combined mode, but still interchangeable with the individual heads.

For some reason, I think most of the best Bayverse toys are ironically original molds of "characters" that aren't even in the movies like DOTM Skyhammer, TF07 Landmine, ROTF Brawn, and even the weaker toys such as TF07 Swindle also has their own interesting quirks that you just can't find on most of the on-screen character toys.

Agreed it sucks that they stopped doing those for the last three movies.

I think the fact they have absolute freedom in their designing process helps them a lot, a luxury on-screen toys who must adhere to physically impossible CGI models don’t have.

I (was) a proud Payload owner. He was my first figure, and I loved him to death, despite his grille and head having fallen off. I'm definitely going on eBay sometime to track down and buy a new one.

    ALL HAIL PAYLOAD!

It would be cool if Studio Series started doing some original designs. The non-movie characters are pretty much the only figures I’ve kept from the older lines. HFTD was filled with a ton of great movie-inspired original molds.

Yeah, most of the off-screen original molds from the Bayverse toylines are really good and some of them do blends well with non-Bayverse collections without looking too bizarre. I won't mind if Studio Series also has some original on-screen molds later on (Things like Shadow Raider, KSI Sentry or KSI Boss doesn't count)

Speaking of Bayverse toys, I will like to mention that AOE Deluxe Slug is probably one of the most boring figure I've ever bought. Maybe it's just me having more fun with the POTP dinobots, but the only reason I've ever bought the TLK version is because of an discount and I'm considering to sold it.

I just got the Universe Ratchet as part of a trade from a friend of mine, and I've mentioned it on here with Ironhide, but I still like that mold a lot. The alt mode manages to update the Van Bros without totally missing the point the way versions that have him turn into a truck or a Jeep do, and I love how bulky it is. The Ratchet version manages to make it look even better with the more bold color scheme, as the one thing I will say about the Ironhide figure is he's a little monochromatic (a problem the Siege toy manages to avoid).

And this is why I am a generally proud(-ish) Japanese G1 fanboy. Long story short on that there is very little that is not G1 when it comes to that continuity. :lol

But when it comes to Generations Selects, I am surprised that neither side did the remaining Dinobots in their Diaclone colors. I mean they did Swoop for Power of the Prime in his Diaclone/animation colors. But they also did a 1985 G1 toy color variant for their Generations Selects line. Then again I am hoping that they will redeco these for the current Generations Selects stuff, and have them be done in Generation 2/G-2 colors.

And then there's the third category who literally fuse metal robotic parts with organic/flesh parts.

The genius creations of Lord Zarak: the monstrous Pretenders
    [IMG]

These also fuse metal & organics:
Wilder, Doublecross, the Firecons, DoubleDealer and of course all the Monstructor members.

All of them make fantastic candidates for intricate organic sculpt detail today's tech can do.

Grimlock should never have a robot mode. He should only stay in dino mode and never transform again.

I actually really like Grimlock's huge shouldered barbarian look.

On topic, I finally opened my FoC G2 Bruticus today. I've had it sealed since I got it from Amazon all those years ago, and decided to just randomly open it up for no reason.
I find myself actually enjoying it. Even though I really disliked the game designs, and this is not a good Combiner engineering-wise, I'm honestly enjoying it.
So basically, for an unpopular opinion, this set isn't that bad

I have the platinum version of Grimlock and Bruticus and love it. I do hope those designs get a better revisit (Maybe Planet X?)
