i didn’t care for her treatment of Jacen Solo either, but both JS and Cathrine Halsey took rather extreme solutions to fixing their problems...

I always saw Halsey as an “the ends justify the means” kinda person, humanity WAS on the brink of civil war after all, and many radical solutions were implemented even in real, historical wars. But for some reason Travis made Halsey into this bogieman. Halsey was actually being written as having a change of heart in Ghosts of Onyx, before Osman showed up and blamed her for Osman washing out of the S-II program. Really Osman should be lucky because a lot of the wash outs ended up dead or permanently crippled.

But I’d better stop, this isn’t a Halo rant thread. :)

This will probably get me killed, but...

As is being reminded to me today in spades, I've always thought the whole "May the Fourth be with you" thing was one of the single dumbest and just lamest attempts at 'clever' punny word play I've ever heard, and will forever be amazed that it actually caught on the way it did. Haha it's just sooooo hokey. Whenever I read it, all I hear in my head is either a toddler or someone with a terrible lisp trying to say it.

    Sorry o_O

The SPARTAN program is an extreme overreaction to a civil conflict. I could accept it as the cost of victory and survival against the Covenant. But it paints a pretty piss-poor picture of the Earth forces if they needed Master Chief to quell a civil rebellion.

I think it's cute, but I do think it's getting a bit old. I would kind of prefer Star Wars Day just be held on the anniversary of the original movie. Especially since both are in May anyway.

I mean, technically, Halsey WAS a boogeyman. She shows up, tests your kid for some random traits she’s looking for, then kidnaps your kid and replaces your child with a clone.... that dies a few months later....

    LOL

It's okay to reboot franchises like Indiana Jones and Star Wars by doing things like:

Casting new actors for the same old roles
More creative freedom in the continuity and story department

Of course, this would be unlikely to live up to the originals but I like to imagine the new directions these franchises can take.

Movie collecting isn't "hoarding" as long you keep it tidy. Same for comics and games.

I'm only against artists drawing "lewds" when they take someone else's creation (specifically non-sexualized characters) and twist them into sex appeal. That's been insanely common and toxic in the animation community as of late.

I'm all for supporting lesser known YouTubers over certain big name asshats with millions of fans (*cough*EgoraptorJonTron*cough*).

I like bellyflops more than regular jelly bellies. I also like the licorice flavor.

I overall preferred the 2002-2007 Clone Wars multimedia project over TCW.

Ezra Miller's Flash was honestly the worst part about Justice League.

Also, the criticism of that movie is WAY overblown.

I agree with them, but then again I don't like MOST youtubers.

You know what else I don't like? Having to defend an unpopular opinion in a thread about unpopular opinions.

I honestly, really don't find multiverse/dimension hopping/crossover stories interesting at all. It seems like something that sounds cool on paper, but when I actually see one, I just can't help but think "what's the point?" It doesn't appeal to me at all.

I hate all this cult surrounding Sparta. With a burning passion. I think that's what made me hate Miller's 300 brainfart even more than this book deserves.

Yes, let's made an icon of heroism of a North Korea-styled bunch of rapists and mass slavers. Who also, by the way, LOST most of their serious wars with their neighbors, anyway. Much badass.

What next? With this logic we're going to have mainstream books glorifying heroic Waffen-SS published within the next millennium or two.

I don’t like movies/media where there is no sacrifice needed to “save the day.” The more tragic a story is, the more gravity is has, and that gives the triumph at the end so much more weight. Media these days is almost always like this. It’s one of the reasons I like Rogue One. Everyone dies in that movie, they made a sacrifice, and that makes their victory all the more impactful. It shows you that sometimes something has to be let go if you want to succeed, especially against dark forces.

I especially hate it when the antagonist gets the free ride and the “we’re all friends now I was just misunderstood” treatment. Redemption through sacrifice is also just as good, and makes for a better story, because something has to be let go.

I'm sort of the same way. The idea can certainly be pulled off well, but the idea of characters from separate franchises interacting does little for me. I've never really felt the excitement that other people seem to feel for crossovers. Like any other sort of story, it's all about the execution for me.
