Since several of the other G1 minibots are getting bigger updated figures, and I never saw the Legends Warpath on a shelf, I figured I'd give him a similar update. Warpath here started as a Dropshot toy which was dyed red.
Definitely a nice dye job but the head, final color and lack of chest cannon leaves me out it the cold as far as the homage is concerned.
Yeah.. I agree, but I'm thinking he's not done since it says, "Warpath here started as a Dropshot toy which was dyed red." I'm not sure if that means there is more to come.. or he started as a Dropshot toy.. and has been dyed red.. and thus is now "warpath" I also to go with the Homage of Warpath, he definitely needs the cannon barrel on his chest and a more warpath style head.. As well as a turret on the tank vs the missile launchers.
The tank mode is fine since all he'd really have to do is deploy all of the hidden weapons. Hell, I'm even col with the orange if the barrel and head were changed. FTR: I like the idea and effort. Just needs a little more umph!
I don't necessarily expect others to see this as anything but red Dropshot However, it's plenty for me and my collection, which has things like movie Strongarm as Brawn.
Okay, i'll try not to be too harsh, but... ...THIS IS RED DROPSHOT. I'm sorry, but that's just how i (and apparently a few other people) feel. While i understand that the workings of the mold make a Head Swap and chest cannon rather difficult to implement, without them, it doesn't really scream Warpath to me. However, if i had to say something constructive about this, is that (taking into account you don't mind not having the chest cannon, etc.) you should really do a quick wash on the thing. The mold has a lot of molded detail, and right now the red is kinda in-your-face. It needs to be toned down a bit.
I love the colors Man, u Dyed That? crazy good job. i like the idea, But IMO, its just not Warpath Without the Cannon in his chest, but other than that bro, it rocks
Hey Gargunkle.. The dye job is super clean. What do you use to dye it? Acetone and dye or a more non-toxic way?
For all of my dye customs I just use Rit brand dye, no acetone or other chemicals. I got the idea from someone here (who made "dark retribution" Animated Dinobots) to use a fry cooker, as opposed to using open flame on a stove. Not everything succeeds... some figures don't take the dye, and others get warped if I am not careful.
wow look great nice dye process... you need more modification start with the head too make it look like Warpath for started. otherwise I like it
I would personally like to see you use some dark grey to break up all the red. Perhaps on the thighs and arms would be the best spots. Other than that, the dye job looks super clean and well done.
It reminds me of one I did with the same figure, also into Warpath. But I agree it needs a new head JL
Ya know, if your feeling ambitious you could probably pull off a KILLER Warpath. Think about this: 1. Remove arm cannons 2. When transforming, twist his waist so the back is the chest and the chest is the back. 3. Scratchbuild a cannon/chest assembly that stays hinged at the head. 4. Obviously, do a head remold or get one from a pro. The mold can work as Classics Warpath if done right.
I can actually get behind this. Not every warpath needs a cannon in his chest. Just like how every megatron has seemed different than the rest. Its good to make them different. Like you say, You are happy and thats all that matters. Thank you for Sharing.
Not even red, though. Just kinda...orangey. In fact, it's like looking at Dropshot through orange-tinted sunglasses. I do not subscribe to the idea that dipping an entire toy into red dye makes it a different character.
