Hello, Its been awhile since I have posted a new custom. I have been working on lots of stuff doing at least a custom or two a week. I'll start my upcoming string of Radicon posts with Universe Powerglide. He started off as a Target Clearance Stormcloud (Purple translucents) but I needed a Powerglide since I missed the Universe release. I wanted to Go with a realistic A-10 as the base. I don't know about anyone else but I have never seen a maroon A-10 warthog or thunderbolt. I started by masking the translucent parts and giving a flat black primer coat. next for the Aircraft parts I dry brushed on some Aircraft gray so I could preserve the rivet holes and panel lines. But wait, Powerglide is a maroon color and its his signature color. To get him to resemble his G-1 likeness I painted his robot parts a custom dark red. Next I did t some detail work and glued some painted GI JOE CLAW missiles to his forearms/landing gear. If I had 2 more I'd ad them to. The final touch was getting my wife to add the Autobot reprolabels to the rear stabilizers. And there he is, G-1 inspired, Real-life resembling Universe Powerglide. I have thought about getting an A-10 model for the decals but I haven't brought myself to do it. I think 1:72 or 1:64 would be the closest scales. Enjoy and Comment.
That colorscheme works really really well. It's still Powerglide, but looks like an actual military plane. Nice job.
That is cool, I like the dual color scheme you pulled off, makes him still look like Powerglide. You should take more pictures and submit it to the gallery.
Thanks for the comments and compliments! I plan on taking more pics of all my customs once we move in to our new house. I don't really have the best lighting at the moment so I had to shoot outside. How do I submit to the Gallery?
Love it. My only tiny crit is that the purple is out of place. I think it would look awesome with a gloss black canopy. Whatever though, great job.
I agree, but I couldn't give up the blinky LED in the cockpit. Maybe I should get some Tamiya clear smoke acrylic next time I go to HobbytownUSA.
That choice of colors works great. I'd definatly of bought that had hasbro released it. (Looks like you have a few tiny touch ups to make) Great job! Mac
Just follow these directions: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-blog/213906-gallery-submissions-guidelines-procedures.html
Ha. I'm the same way. I can't bring myself to paint over the pretty clear plastic. I even repainted this guy myself and left it. Such a hypocrite! But seeing your work really inspires me to complete it. Great job.
I like how you worked that out. Has a movie/real life feel to it, yet retains a classics/G1 tone. Very nice!
Thanks! Will do once I get more pics up. Hey yours looks good, finish him up and post it! Thanks, I always seem to find myself leaning towards a grittier, real life look with my work. I guess the '07 film has inspired me in that respect.
Great color combo! You have successfully pulled off a convincing "real world" jet mode and retained the dark red of 'ol Powerglide we all know and love!! Pure win!!
