Universal has just screwed up big time! Movie chains are ticked at universal over trolls 2 breaking the movie rules without telling them. All the other studios asked them if they can release them early and they gave them their blessing. Universal told them 25 min before announcing it and unlike the other films, this film never got a big screen release yet!

The movie chains head is "we will not forget this!"

So universal bit the hand that feeds them! Universal may end up having to give the chains more of the profits from their films or get less screens and other things.

    Really bad move universal.

What was Universal thinking? That's just bad business and it's cost them!

Universal would be lucky if the movie chains doesn't decide to cut them off altogether by this stunt.

Huh, the movie chains are going to be lucky to survive so that's not much of a threat.

Universal, Disney, Sony and many others owe more money than they have cash in hand. Disney recently had to borrow around 8 billion just to keep paying all their loans. It's like getting another credit card to pay off your old credit card bills. All these companies have been spending more money than they are getting in with all these mergers and in some cases bad investments. Now when something bad happens, they aren't prepared and if they can't find money somewhere their loans may come in and their companies may fall apart or have to be broken up and sold. It's like the housing bubble, but now its the movie bubble they themselves created. They pushed and leveraged too far and if the virus keeps people away from them too long the bubble will break. A lot of them have very little money coming in now, so they are desperate to keep any revenue coming in to keep the bankers at bay.
This doesn't even go into all the money many of these companies have lost pushing social agendas in various media. Rather than make products for their long established customer bases driving them away.
Basically they thought the money would keep flowing down river, but there was an unexpected land slide and now the river is drying up and it's a stream and if they don't do something it could become a little creek then dry up.

In Universal and Disney's cases, they just had major theme parks and boat cruises cancelled as well. So that's even less money coming in for a few months likely.

So what you’re saying is it’s almost like making bad investments and deliberately pissing off your audiences isn’t a sustainable business practice?

    Who would have thought.

John Campea is such a melodramatic gossipy little bitch, I'm embarrassed he's a Canadian. He just sounds like a 16 year old girl trying to make a rando Kardashian vs. Taylor Swift feud a waaaay bigger deal than it is. Like, oh no, what a big scary 'threat' from barely-staying-in-business-even-in-GOOD-times theater chains to a movie studio who typically releases box office bombs 90% of the time anyway. :rolleyes2

This guy is such a fucking queef. I can't believe *anyone* willingly watches his nonsense.

So the big movie chain...like AMC...which is owned by the Chinese, and?

I do like watching him most of the time, but when he gives his *** opinions I roll my eyes literally.

    1. It's not like theaters can show anything right now.
    2. There will still be plenty of other movies to release once they reopen in May.
    3. They now don't have to waste screens on a garbage movie.

Yeah I know... I just can't believe it still works, especially for him. You'd think at this point everyone knows that he's like the Cosmic Books News / We Got This Covered / etc. of sad YewTewberz where nothing he ever says means anything to anything. It's just a douchebag head shitting meaningless words out of its douchebag mouth. And not even in an entertaining way. I just don't get it.

    Question for AMC:
How many theaters are most likely closed right now due to certain circumstances and not being essential?

Sounds like the movies chain heads are more upset universal broke the contract of when a movie can get released without talking with them first. No movies won't block universal films but universal may have to give up more of the films profits for a bit to "make up" with the chains. I'm sure they will make up after time. (the ones that are still around anyways)

Ironic thing is from the sound of it the chains would have gave universal the ok if they just asked.

This whole fit the theaters are throwing still doesn't make any sense since they will still be getting the movie.
It's just going on demand on the same day.
Don't really see what the issue is.

They are closed so they are not getting the movie. Only drive ins are getting them and those are starting to close by the states. Movie chains unless they get the ok can't put a movie out on digital or video till a few months otherwise they break the contact they have with the movie chains and can get in trouble over it.

Again universal will still get their movies out but may have to pay the movie chains more unless they kiss and make up.
