After translating most of the comments on weibo, there are two color variants. Green & desert color. Desert one will come out after green’s production is finished. So yeah they will sell the green one & then they will bring the desert color to the market.

OK, the standard version is just what I was wishing for.
A great base for custom weathering.
I'll go with this one, as the weathered one doesn't appeal to me at all.

Yeah I just pre ordered the battle damaged version. Luckily I have a bunch of points and I’m in the UK so I got the pre order for about £40.

 

I love Unique Toys, but the way they're handling this release is baffling.

Well since they apparently plan to make the accurate version later, guess I’ll wait and order later. No reason to buy the inaccurate one now.

 

Huh. Need to work out where I put in a pre order. Not positive, but I may be about to drop this. I actually really like the AAT version (bought it for the truck mode) and I've had an amazing custom for years at basically the same scale. Figured I'd regret not grabbing this one as well (and figured this is one that might sell out, so I pre ordered)- but at the moment I think I may be good with what I have.

Little more thought before I do anything.

 

I am just going to wait for the dessert version.

 

Wonder why this one seems to look better than so many other pictures? Not sure what to make if the differences?

 

Does anyone know if there are any references to a green tanker? I am just trying to understand the logic behind releasing it in these colors when in the movie he was the tan that we all know. Also, how can they expect to have any sales when everyone will wait for the correct color version, is beyond me.

 

I wonder how cheap the plastic is. Maybe if we soak him under the sun the plastic would start to yellow literally giving him a tan lol.

 

Here is the CGI promo art from DOTM. While I think UT might be a tad more green, there is a pretty solid contrast between head and body. So UT isn't all that far off.

 

Time to wait for BMB's version I suppose.

 

Yeah if this is the final plastic color then I will also get the unpainted and just do it myself. Time to try and find a good tamiya spray for that movie-accurate tan! This could actually be a fun project, although I totally get people's frustration with it being inaccurate. However the base figure looks amazing! So accurate and detailed. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

The only thing I can think of is that there was some sort of production error or miscommunication about the color and they just ran with it. But giving them the benefit of the doubt maybe they were trying for a more militaristic look?

 

The most obvious explanation would be a lot of the early concept art used a similar pale/military green instead of the trucks actual tan colour so a lot of DOTM Megs designed reference this colour scheme rather than the truck colours.

Good to see the tanker without the shame covering cloak, the dark silver helps hide the greeble a little but it still looks awful and now you can tell the top is hollow too :/

 

Yeah… this is a load of bullshit on UT’s part. If this turns out to be true, then count me in among those who will wait for the correctly painted version.
