On the bright side drybrushing is easy and fun   If you have a brush, cotton balls and the right paint you've basically saved yourself $30 and given yourself a fun afternoon project  

I have to say though- what was UT thinking with the unpainted version??? It doesn't just look simpler, it looks unfinished, like a raw gundam figure

 

Apparently it was a version meant for people to paint themselves. I think it would have worked better if they broke it up with more than 1 plastic color much like their Optimus.

 

It would take me a month to do that weathering myself. And it would probably look like crap.  

 

I wish the clean version came with an optional undamaged head.

Came in a lot sooner than expected, not that I'm complaining  .

Off the bat, I'm glad I decided to go with the damaged version over the clean. The green is nowhere near as bright as originally shown, and looks pretty nice in-person. I haven't transformed him yet (planning on doing that tonight). As of now, this is another winner from Unique Toys.

I'll also add, he is heavier than I anticipated.

 

Mine just showed up today, nice and bare. Green looks way better in person than photos, but is still to bright for my taste. Will be a fun project to repaint and weather. First transformation took me about 30 mins, but back to bot mode only took me about 20. Transformation is quite fun.


I noticed someone mentioned the headlight falling off, but it appears both of mine are gone :/. My bad luck with figures strikes again.


Also some people were asking how to get the chains on the truck so I figured I would share what I did. I assembled the chains into an X kinda like the Studio Series one like this:

And then I found a few areas around the truck to attach em. I was only able to get 3 chains attached, but Im fine with 1 dangling as he had some dangling in the movie as well. Adds to the dangerous look. To get to these areas i just folded some parts of the trailer out of the way and slipped the chain through and hooked it onto it self.




The trailer looks WAY better in person as you can actually see the depth between the tanker and the molded in cage. Only the rear of the legs on top look out of place but I am tinkering with that since they are on mishroom pegs. And my shoulder flaps are fine. It taked quite a bit of force to peg them in the first time but mine snapped in with a loud *CLICK* and then never came apart until transformation. Just support behind the joint with your index and middle and squeze HARD with you thumb until the gap is closed. Nice and secure

 

The headlights might be in the box, you should definitely check again.

Damn that looks so bare haha! I am excited to see what you do with the weathering! I'm glad you like the colors better in person. I think that'll happen to everyone. I'm actually thinking the transformation might be easier without all the weathering that my version has, cause it's probably easier to see all the parts!

Thanks for showing what you did with the chains. It looks great for truck mode, but my hope is to find a way to set them up that works for both truck and bot mode without having to rearrange them.

 

Just finished transforming Megs back into robot mode. The transformation wasn't simple (thank you Emgo for the transformation video), but it's nowhere near nightmare. The weight of the diecast made it a bit challenging for me to handle it, but other than I had no issues.

Looking at my display shelf, I now have a Megatron from every film in Masterpiece, except ROTF.

BB - Moncrat Megatank (Didn't appear in-film, but I'm still counting it)

 

I'm hoping ut does rotf megs or sentinel prime probably 2 of my most wanted figures from them

 

What size is the links you bought? 2.5mm?

If by rearranging you mean disassembling the chains and reassembling for bot mode, I dont do that. The "X" setup works for both bot and Truck. For bot mode I just use the clips and attach them to the holster as shown:
