I did a long time ago, was highly disappointed and sold it. Even using the shortest, thickest support peg, it was far too unstable to reliably support the weight of a toy like Unicron. I used it a few times for Armada Tidal Wave, on a low shelf, and still had problems with the figure falling off with even slight disturbances. Using a tripod support for the stand would have worked a lot better than just a single support peg (as the stand was designed) and it mystifies me that it wasn't designed as a tripod, given that three pegs are included with the set anyway. Didn't take any pictures, though.
yeah it was a rather disappointing purchase. As Scantron pointed out, it was terribly painful to balance and once I finally got it balanced a light sneeze from the next town over would cause it to crash to the ground. Once the peg snapped, I tossed it in the closet.
I'm planning to throw something together out of a broken clear acrylic(3/16" thick) necklace stand from work. If it works out like I hope, maybe someone with the ability to make more than one would be interested in copying it?
I've got one that I bought at BotCon the year Uni came out, lost the damned peg-adapter or some essential piece on the ride home (The bag fell out of the trunk at a rest-stop or something), so I've never been able to put it together. Always thought about scratch-building whatever piece I'm missing, but hearing it doesn't work well after all, maybe not. The Beast-Machines accessory pack OTOH was a GREAT set! D/L
Hmmm something tells me I should have come here BEFORE ordering my Unicron display stand last week. Two nights ago I heard a crash sound, around 12:30 am, in my room and just as I suspected it was my unicron falling off the stand. This is why I decided to come here and see if anybody else has had this problem AND if there is a solution. Anybody???
ive got one, and ive heard that if you actually glue the pegs into place, they will be more stable, but then you cant change out the pegs either...i havent done it yet, but ive got unicron in robot mode right now anyway...
Ya my bro CDNShockwae has it and it does not work very well at all. I dont think it can even support Unicron on it's own has to have it in a corner to lean against something to keep it from falling over.
Is it possible to just buy one and then take the plastic pole to the hardware store or craft store and get a stronger wooden dowel or metal rod cut to the same length and thickness? I think that would pretty much fix the floppyness of it .. you would just have to paint the wooden one or metal one to fit in a bit better, white wouldnt look to bad... Unless the plastic rod has special clip in ends, then that may not work ... If that is the case then maybe you can get a metal sleeve that the plastic one would fit into. You could probably find something like that at the hardware store or plumbing store or home depot and such.. Just some ideers im throwing out there lol -Curt
i may be wrong, but it just does not look like it is even big enough for Unicron to sit upon, and therefore you get the tenuous balancing at best. I had considered just hanging my Unicron, but abandoned that madness so he stands in bot mode, lookin' pretty. i am just asking- seems pricey to do this anyway- but does it make for a decent stand for say, the G1 Seekers, or even Jetfire/Valkyries? or any flying alt mode?
I'm using mine for my G1 Screamer so i can fit all the seekers one one shelf. Works fairly well, as long as it doesn't take any direct hits.
