The purpose of this list is to enumerate things that were promised or otherwise hinted at during production but were not delivered. Soundwave: No visor, no synthesized voice, no robot mode, no earth mode. Sisters combining: Cancelled. Twins combining in robot mode: Cancelled? Sideways & Jolt: New bots, but no screentime given. Grindor/Blackout dilemma: Never explained (they said there was a reason for it) Hightower and Overload: No robot modes? Feel free to add your own (please no letdowns out of things you expected out of sheer 'fanboydom'; only things that were somehow promised to happen).
I like how "hinted at" = "promised". When you make a movie you come up with ideas and throw a lot of them out. That's just how it goes. People who weren't lapping up every leaked design and set report won't miss a thing when they sit down to watch the movie. That's the price you pay for following along with movie news while it's in production.
I see. You're bored so you're playing picky/smart, right? The point is that these are not just things I would have liked to be in the movie just for the hell of it. They were at some point supposed to happen, and yes at least HINTED AT by the producers.
I never heard anything about Herp and Derp combining in anything but ICT mode. Or Jolt being anything but "hey, check out the cool car this guy turns into!"
I agree with you regarding the Arcee bikes combining (the whole "hive mind" aspect doesn't make much sense if they don't combine into a single robot) and knowing what the individual robots look like I was really intrigued to see how they looked combined (it was probably the most unpredictable of all the new designs for the movie). I hope we at least get to see the concept art at some point. I'd say Springer not being in the movie and Barricade's disappearance still remaining unexplained are too things that were undelivered. I wouldn't consider any of them promises, but more things fans expected based on what they heard/saw.
Well i havn't seen the movie, so I don't really know what else will irk me. Oh wait none of that has.
Um. Didn't you ever see this? Do you think it's a coincidence that their otherwise randomly deformed faces seem to match that way? Or their disproportionately large arms being the right one in Skids and the left one in Mudflap?
Oooh, so, since they combine into an ice cream truck, their faces had to be designed so that they're able to intertwine and form a normal face. Yeah, that makes sense.
Except there's nothing to show that they were implicitly designed to have their faces intertwine (a feature that would be damn-near impossible for a toy to simulate, BTW) Just that they mirror each-other's features.
If that's the case, I guess Hightower and Overload not having robot modes can be justified by the difficulty to make a toy that transforms while also having the capability to combine into Devastator. NOT. And about the mirroring, Skids has an upper jaw but not a lower one, and Mudflap has the upper one but not the lower one. Same goes for those ear things they have. They're not mirrored. They're made so that each one has parts the other is missing, which unavoidably hints at putting them together to form something that's complete.
"Unavoidably"? Sorry, nope. It could just mean they were intended to each look kinda derpy and/or herpy while also resembling each other, but NOT ever be even planned of combining into a gestalt robot mode. If they are "twins" then perhaps at their birth a single spark split into two - that would explain their incomplete, halved appearance without implying they were planned to combine. In any case, a theory based on an interpretation of a photoshopped version of leaked design art does not constitute a 'promise'. And getting angry at a design team for not giving you something you can only assume would have existed reeeeeally constitutes getting ahead of yourself.
Do you really see me bashing the design team? I'm just enumerating things I assumed would happen in the movie, based on more or less reasonable indications.
I only know undelivered promises in the the movie are the treatment of Soundwave (lack of screentime, not even a robot mode) and still no explanation on Barricade's disappearance... Others are probably ideas that get scarpped during production of the movie
BTW, the twins' ability to combine into a bot is stated in this article by EmpireOnline, which includes quotes of what seems to be an interview with Bay himself.
Plans do change during production of a movie. It's all part of the process. Things get added, dropped or changed.
