For a while now I have been trying to find a good Ultra Magnus for my collection, without paying City Commander prices, so my real question is "Which is a better "Classics" RID Ultra Magnus or Animated Ultra Magnus?"

 

animated rid is a good figure but does not look anything like g1 inspired magnus

 

neither really, g1 is closer than them

 

What about Titanium G1 Ultra Magnus?  

 

If I had to pick between the two proposed figures I'd go with RiD UM. an Animated figure just wont look right displayed alongside Classics IMO. Animated UM is great and all but RiD Ultra Magnus is an incredible toy that is capable of many things, especially if you have RiD Prime.

 

I still prefer the City Commander armour, IMHO.
but it's totally up to you.  

 

if you have RID prime? RID magnus all the way

if not? eh, i say animated, while it don't go with classics at all, it really is a great ultra magnus figure

 

Obviously you're not going to get a better "Classics" Ultra Magnus than the designed "Classics" Ultra Magnus+CC.

Granted, both of choices would cost maybe half of what it would cost for a City Commander set. But saying that, if you can spend half of what a City Commander would cost, why not try to save up the other half?

 

Fans project City Commander is the best until now..

 

I would save up for CC if you have Classics Magnus.

Between the two though, R.I.D Does more justice than Animated IMO

 

I'd personally skip RID Magnus. Car carrier looks good but a nightmare to transform. I don't remember it having much articulation either. Unless you have RID Prime to combine with, skip him.

 

RID Magnus sucks... Long legs, huge weapon, nothing about that toy screams Magnus to me.

As for Animated... i'm actually selling my DIA commander for one lol. Not sure why everyone discounts animated so much, sure they look different but is it really a big deal? In my collection, I have no problem displaying animated with Alternity, Vintage G1, Classics, or Beast Wars.   Guess its all a matter of preference, would you be ok displaying Animated Magnus with your classics stuff?

 

For me, Animated is Animated while Classics belong to Classics.

No way will I ever mix the 2 lines together because the designs/aesthetics just doesn't fit into each other.

That's me though.

You should get you a KO City Commander. From what I have read they seem to be pretty decent and only 50 bucks.
