Yesturday I picked up TPBs 1-6 of Ultimate X-men, I had read vol 1 a while back, but since the bookstore had the first 6 I went ahead and snagged them all. They had 8 and 9 too, but I didnt get them because they didnt have 7. Im interested to know what the high and low points of the series are, and how many volumes I am missing.
Of the ones I've read so far, the vol 4: Hellfire & Brimstone and Vol6: Return Of The King were my fav's As for how many of them there are: Ultimate XMen Vol 1: The Tomorrow People Ultimate XMen Vol 2: Weapon X Ultimate XMen Vol 3: World Tour Ultimate XMen Vol 4: Hellfire & Brimstone Ultimate XMen Vol 5: Ultimate War Ultimate XMen Vol 6: Return Of The King Ultimate XMen Vol 7: Blockbuster Ultimate XMen Vol 8: New Mutants Ultimate XMen Vol 9: The Tempest Ultimate XMen Vol 10: Cry Wolf Ultimate XMen Vol 11: The Most Dangerous Game (Just released) Ultimate XMen Vol 12: Hard Lessons won't be out for a while Like yourself, I need to pick up the ones after vol 6.
I have all of them and I there are only a few I don't like. I hate Chris Bachalo. You think Jae Lee is bad for "Ultimate"...... But his pencils were decent in Ultimate War. I loved Iceman in that one. I didn't care for "The Most Dangerous Game" either. The story and art were blah. The later ones with David Finch are great too. My personal fave is Cry Wolf. Awesome art and great characterization!
It was a good book, but I dropped it after Cry Wolf. Its just becoming a case of 'How many 616 x-characters can we cram into this book?'
I caved and bought books 7 & 8 at the weekend, adding them to the pile of Ultimate books I need to read. So many book, so little time.
i liked 'Blockbuster' best (but it's basically an 'Ultimate Spiderman team-up'), but thought they did some great wolverine work in there...
me 2. i dropped it right in the middle of Dangerous game. I love Runaways, but BKVs writing on UXM has been pretty bad IMO.
