So did anyone pick it up?

Just finished it, and looks like a whole lotta fun. :D

Only thing that slightly annoyed me was the Tibetan temple page...the way it was drawn out seemed similar to Bruce Wayne's arrival to Ra's temple in Batman Begins...but the next page more than made up for that little problem.:)

And I was wondering, (since I don't read Ultimates, only skimmed the first tpb) wasn't the Ultimate version of Hulk grey before? When did he become green?

Yeah, I'm also bothered that they made Ultimate Hulk a pale green instead of grey. I bet they're going to write it off as an effect of the nuke.

But, hell, this was a fun issue. Poor Logan, though...yeesh.

"Why aren't there any girls in this town"

I almost fell off my chair laughing.

"Hulk Straight!" has never rung so true! Go Hulky!

Maybe this will be better than I expected, it just seemed too over the top and senseless going in. Seems like Yu's artwork is worse than his first run on wolvie back in the late 90's though.

He is still one of my favorite artists, It would have been nice if he could have done more substantial stuff while doing X-men, his art style was perfect for that series.

I picked this up today and it seems somewhat insubstantial so far and just an excuse for over the top violence.
There's no real reason to send Wolverine to start with. The Ultimates already beat the Hulk so they could presumably do it again, unless this is actually in continuity with the latest Ultimates issue.

The whole point is that nobody "knows" he's alive, therefore nobody must know that he needs to be killed. Again.

He hasn't gotten his legs back yet. The ripping apart actually took place a few minutes before the real time of the issue. The real time currently has Wolverine climbing a mountain where Hulk threw his legs 4 miles up.

The entire issue is flashback. It has Logan introduced by Fury to Jen Walters and Betty Ross. He is told that since Hulk was supposed to be dead and it was SHIELD's responsibility, this mission technically will never exist. Thus SHIELD cannot take part in the mission. So Wolverine gets recruited.

In Ultimates v2, after people learned that Banner and the Hulk were one and the same, people believed that the Ultimates were intentionally harboring a major murderer (remember, during his New York rampage in v1 he killed hundreds) and wanted Banner executed. Fury and the rest went along with it to make sure support for the Ultimates didn't dwindle significantly.

If word had gotten out that the Ultimates--a VERY publicized team--did NOT execute the Hulk and had to go after him again, then they'd look ineffective and lose a helluva lot of support.

Thanks for that. Will be interesting to see how he gets them back, though. He'll probably just push them back against his body and let the healing take care of the rest.

And I really hope this mini-series won't be a mindless fragfest, and focus a bit on Branner's point of view and Wolverine's morals. It's an Ultimate story, after all.

As far as being ripped in half by the Hulk, It was explained a bit in the issue durring a conversation between Dr. Walters and Wolvie. His bones are laced with Adamantium, not his joints. Which explains how Peter was able to slice off part of Wolverine's finger when he and Logan switched bodies for two issues of U Spider-man.

The only thing I had a problem with on THAT point was weither or not the new finger he grew back had Adamantium in it? :huh

You're right, I completely forgot about that plothole!

In any instance, that whole story was just Bendis goofing off (dude says so in the recap page), so I doubt that it actually exists "in continuity."
