So, I have been bussy with the DOTM Ultimate Optimus Prime, He is the only Optimus we have that scales with the Studio Series Deluxes BUT... he never actually was how it should be. I decided to fix him. the project is now at 80% so I am confident to show the progress. what is done with Optimus: (Ill come back to the trailer later) - 6mm of width cut out of the truck, - removed the frontwheels (forearms) - Made faux doors for the chest, - made higher smokestacks, - remade the grille (removed hinge) - fitted it all together again, - started painting. it sounds simple, but it was a lot of work, Not only is everything tighter with a 6mm slimmer car, I also had to find ways to incorporate and hide the mods. the Trailer will transform into the armoury and jetpack. (Second post in this tread) nuff said, here are all the pictures of him since the start of the project. tomorrow I will upgrade the tread with pictures of Optimus Prime finished. Post for Trailer: the Trailer was to wide and to Short to look just right, so I reduced the width by 40mm, and added pieces from another trailer to increase the length with 140mm, I also cut it all up in 8 pieces and started building the Armoury ring. The roof is not yet made but will become the jetpack. Here is where the Trailer is now:
Thank you! The paint will make it even better, It is starting to become my favorite custom, the Trailer is a fun project to.
You did an awesome job there, no questions ask - but why did you make him thinner? And which paint did you use for Ratchet? it looks colorshifting. I use Green Stuff World's Chameleon Colors but this one doesn't look like one of them. MAYBE Tropical Green but it looks too yellow.
I made him thinner cause the altmode of the truck was (6mm) to wide, it ruined the look of the truck for me so That is where the custom started. It is house of color candy custard lime over a gold base, it came out to yellow so I will try it over silver next time to get it 100% movie accurate, I build him a new rear shell to and got decals made, he will be awesome once he is done.
Uh, yeah, I've seen that "self-made" colorshift effect made out of a metallic color under a candy paint before. Maybe I should stop buying colorshifting paints and make my owns.
I never got around to finishing the trailer, I moved on to a MPM scale and decided to stop working on it
TLK voy OP is actually 1/42 scale. SS Ratchet is 1/50. It's actually very hard to get the whole set of proper scale, other than with MPMs (expensive) and rotf OP. I finally gave up on 1/40, and got the ugly 1-step BB which is 1/50.
The TLK Voyager is smaller at 1:52, there is a OS version trough that is spot on 1:39 scale (perfect for SS collectors) It really sucks they have the scale so borked up. Mpm isn't perfect either at scales between 1:28 and 1:33 for vehicles and a whopping 1:58 for Starscream.. Hastak is horrible at scale.. I finally moved to the OS BMB scale for Prime and Ironhide, (1:26 scale) and got the HA figures back for Jazz, Twins and Barricade and have the BC-02 Bumblebee witch all are 1:25 scale so they look great together. Thank you, if you are interested I can ship it to you for shipping only.. maybe you can finish it ;-)
