Just curious, what would you guys think an "Ultimate Marvel" version of Transformers would be like? I'm thinking more along the lines of The Ultimates and Ultimate Fantastic Four where they really re-imagined the characters' personalities and in some cases origins as opposed to just modernizing them like with Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men.

IDW didn't really feel like a re-imagining to me, just a more modern take on G1.

Be that as it may... when it started at least, the IDW-verse felt very much like an "Ultimate" take on G1

Errr..isn't that exactly what the Ultimate line started out as? More modern, slightly younger versions of Marvel characters, with no continuity holding it back and the ability to do more outrageous thinga.

IDW even had its own Ultimatum-style disaster: All Hail Megatron! :lol

I was referring more to The Ultimates and Ultimate Fantastic Four, where they were pretty heavily re-imagined.

I get that..but the same principle still applies to IDW's Transformers. Lots of characters got reimagined, especially the last couple of years! :)

Transformers gets re-imagined pretty often. Consider Prime for another example, but yea, IDW already kinda is it. You have a lot of things different, like a Starscream who wins, no Unicron stuff, the pre-war history, reimagined bots like Tailgate, Arcee, Magnus, Galvatron, Sixshot, Sunstreaker...

    That's exactly what IDW is.

Based on the old but with a total new spin to it.

Some good, some not so good.

But still one of the better TF fictions created to date.

I think the -Ations are certainly one of the most Ultimate-esque takes on the franchise. The "Henkei" manga also makes me think of the Ultimate line, rolling a lot of concepts together and taking some striking new approaches to characters and their relationships.

Actually, it's called the "Bayverse" around these parts.

All Hail Megatron is a lot like Ultimate Spider-Man. A decompressed, by the book, modernization that's easily accessible to most fans. Ultimatum was the opposite of that. Most of IDW's big crossover events haven't been anywhere near as bad as Ultimatum.

If Mark Miller is writing it that would fit frighteningly well.

Honestly I think making the Fantastic Four younger lost the Worlds Coolest Family dynamic that makes them so unique and interesting amongst superheroes. Also Ultimate Doom was no where near as good as regular Doom.

...so, is it in season 6 we learn all Transformers with aerial alternate modes were created through genetic experimentation on Starscream?

You just wait until Yoo-Nih-Kron shows up!

But yeah, IDW, at least at first, is probably the most "Ultimate"-esque version of Transformers we're gonna get.
