Hot damn, Benids can sure write a damn interesting book without actually having the character in character for a good 3/4 of the book. I mean, he was Spidey for what, 6 pages? And the book still rocked. And man, ican't wait for the ramifications form this. Spider-man getting it on. Oh and now looking at the cover image blackened out, it makes so much sense I can't believe I didn't realize it. Duh! As for Ultimates, I was bored. Pure and simle. It wasn't that interesting and dragged on and on. It actually reminded me why they stopped annuals, they bit storywise. So what did everyone else think?
So who was Spidey's new Girlfriend? Feel free to PM me if ya want. Her identity (not the surprise of it) will be the sole deciding factor on my purchase of the book.
As much as I'd want Ultimate Peter to get it on with Ultimate Gwen (that's not an understatement) I don't see it coming. So I say Felicia. If not then I'm stumped.
Not got the Spiderman Annual yet, but picked up the Ultimate one and have to agree. It was dull. The artwork seemed a bit off in points, and the story just seemed to drag on a bit. I'll let you know what I think of Spidey when I get it.
OMG Ultimate Spider-Man was every bit as good as the first few arcs of the Ultimate ongoing. That was a romance comic RIGHT THERE.
I finally got the Ultimate Spidey Annual today. Granted, I already knew before I got the book who his new girlfriend would be (because of this thread), but it's not like the cover kept it a secret. Anyway, this was a great book. I've always had a soft spot for Shadowcat (especially her Ultimate self), and Peter and Kitty make a cute couple. And it's refreshing to see the concept of the Ultimate Universe exploited to its fullest. Bendis has retold 616 Spidey moments in different ways (Gwen killed by Carnage), but now he's breaking away from the source material by giving Peter a girlfriend his 616 self has never met (to the best of my knowledge). And you know what? I like it. In fact, the only thing that bugged me about the issue is Mark Brooks' art style. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but it seemed a little odd in places (Peter looked a bit older in a couple panels). By the way, is the villain that Spidey and Kitty take on Shocker?
If its a thug in a leather jacket with the Shocker equipment. Yup; its Ultimate Shocker. I mean. Ult Shocky got his premiere and sudden beatdown in TWO PAGES and whasn't even named. That's how important he is. I like things like that. =)
Okay, I had a hunch that it was him. I mean, the device he uses is the same, and the exact same guy showed up in the Venom story (though not identified by name) and got his ass kicked by Spidey in his black costume. And if I remember the story properly (it's been a while since I read it), Spidey had tangled with him before. Something tells me Bendis doesn't much care for Shocker.
616? I assume that has something to do with the old Marvel continuity. So what does it mean? 616 characters? That would almost make sense...
616 is the number given to the main Marvel Universe (being that there are an infinite number of parallel universes in the Marvel Multiverse). The number was first used in Marvel UK's Captain Britain comic.
Originally it was to get a creative team 1 shot at a story in a double sized book. Sometimes they also contained stories that crossed only annuals. Now it seems an annual is to tell a story within continuity but one that wouldn't fill a whole 6 issue arc.
