Hiya, When I was a kid in the late 80's / early 90's I had the full set of McDonald's Transformers (I think it was a Big Mac, Milkshake, Fries and Quarter Pounder?) I loved them but as an angsty teenager stupidly, stupidly threw them away. I'd love to get a good condition set again. I can see some on Ebay but I wondered: - can anyone confirm exactly what was in that first batch in the UK? (I know they next lot were dino McDonalds Transformers... ) - is there anywhere I could get hold of the set in one go? Thank you Jack
Well I can't tell you what was released in the UK at that time since I wasn't around, but I do know they were called Food Changeables well at least in the US. VINTAGE 80'S MCDONALD'S COMMERCIAL W RONALD, GRIMACE, AND TRANSFORMER LIKE TOYS - YouTube I don't know about getting them at once, but usually they pop in lots on ebay.
Can't confirm how many there were but all of the four you mentioned were released and the fries one was different to the US one in the advert as it was red.
This is the advert you want McDonald's McRobot Happy Meal animated advert (late 80s/early 90s) - YouTube
Thank you so much everyone! That's brilliant, especially the advert. It looks like there were four in the UK but eight in the US! The child me would be so excited by this news (the adult me is). I know they're a bit crappy but it's that good old nostalgia.
There were a couple other, increasingly-insane waves. 1990 McDonald's Food Transformers Changeables Set of 28 Toys | eBay
So I am MEGA excited because I just managed to buy a lot of the first 8 changeables still in their packets from Ebay. It came to $75 dollars including postage to the UK but that seems pretty incredible for them to still be wrapped up over twenty years later... Perhaps I'm mad, I could have bought MP Red Alert! They're the US release and it would be nice to have the regional versions I remember but meh, they look the same Am I a Transformer hardcore fan now?
I think the bulk of those don't actually transform. There was a series of food characters too. Nugget kids and characters of the sort. But yes, there were more than just robots. A second series turned into dinosaurs. Those are the only two waves I remember.
They arrived today and they are in perfect condition! What a blast from the past. The bags are a bit worn but then they would after 24 years in storage! Now the question is, to open or not to open! I don't think I can bring myself to do it, although I would of course present them in a good cabinet and protect the packaging further. I would have been totally against opening them but it appears there are lots of sealed sets out there. What do you all think?
I got these for $16.48 (including delivery to the UK) I already have all the ones they released in the UK so was only going for the American ones, think I missed a couple due to late bidding, may try and collect the rest later. There's at least a Egg Mcmuffin Robot and a Chicken McNuggets Carton Robot in addition to these. It was this thread that prompted me to get them. Right that's done it I've bought the rest of them: Big Mac (different colours to the UK one) Chicken McNuggets Egg McMuffin Large Fries (well can always do with extra fries) Milk Shake (different design to the UK) Quarter Pounder For $33.02 to the UK
That's cool They are great, so I'm glad to have prompted another fan! I wish I had the UK ones - I'm based in the UK and had that set as a youngun. Were there only four released in the UK? I saw this post which says there were two waves in the US. I need the first wave with the McMuffin.
Looks like the UK had: Series 2 - Big Mac, Large Fries, Milkshake & Quarter Pounder (though I think we missed that week) We never got any Series 1 Looks like with my last purchase I have all the robots. Can't say I'm that bothered about getting the dinos (though I have a few)
No, me either. Although there is a MIP set on Ebay right now... I can't buy any more though. I need MP Soundwave Thanks for the info about the UK set.
Wow, great purchase, memories are flooding back! Moreso due to the old McD's packaging than anything else I think if they are accessible and cheap enough, get yourself another sealed set, and open one to enjoy All the best Maz
