Hi. When I first saw the new Soundwave figure from the ROTF line, I couldn't help but think that, with a bit of work, it might make for a really cool movie-verse Vector Prime one day. (I suggested as much to the Hasbro guy at TFCon, but I'm not sure the odds of an official one are all that high...) Background-wise, it's been established in the Defiance prequel that there is a so-called 'Dynasty of Primes' - to which Optimus (and who knows, maybe even a yet-to-be-mentioned Rodimus?) belongs. So, my thought was that Vector Prime could be one of the earlier members of the Dynasty, or maybe even its founder - and that ROTF Soundwave mould could be a good basis for him. For starters, he'd need a new paint job and a couple of Autobot logos in place of the Decepticon ones, but that's the easier part. When it comes to a more VP-ish head sculpt, what could work instead of the very Decepticon-ey head the toy already has? In addition, it seemed a bit wasteful to simply ignore the 'Ravage' add-on - not least since Ravage will eventually see a release for the insertion mode which currently doubles as Soundwave's spring-loaded projectile. What could a re-decoed (or replaced) missile be made to represent instead... and, indeed, could a figure be re-purposed to represent a larger version of the pod, the way there will be with Ravage? (I was thinking that the protoform Optimus seems a logical choice, but then again might be a bit too obvious... plus there's the question of just who that mould would be made to represent.) So, any thoughts?
But would Wreckage's head fold up properly, if placed on Soundwave? (Actually, what about the head from pre-Earth Optimus - or again would that be too obvious?)
Your idea is wonderfuly outside the box man, I'd be opposed to the Optimus head because of this. I don't have a Soundwave, so I don't know how the Wreckage head would effect him transforming. Though I'm sure there are other options.
I just realised that the mould could also work as Logos Prime - the 'Soundblaster' ancient. He could even keep the Ravage mould as his herald, in place of Hell Buzzsaw!
sounds like a winner there, I enjoyed the story he came from as well, though I could only find 2 chapters that were translated.
My thought was that one version could be worked out to represent a movie-verse Vector Prime - with a 'new' re-purposed replacement for the bigger Ravage - while a straight Soundblaster re-deco (plus Ravage) could represent a dimension-hopping Logos Prime from some other reality out there in the multiverse. At least, it would make for a nice break compared to the typical slew of Seeker re-decoes.
