Tuscaloosa, the city the University of Alabama is located, had an officer put an auburn university tag on the front of his squad car. I thought this was photoshopped but the Tuscaloosa mayor was on the radio this morning talking about it. Here is a pic: Funny thing, the officer who drove it home daily lived very close to campus in an apartment complex with a bunch of UA students. As big a Tide fan as I am, I have got to give this guy credit for having the fortitude to not care at all and risk life and limb to support his school. Tuscaloosa's my home town. Lived there for 21 years. Now I'm stuck in the land of ice and snow, Pennsylvania
I still don't see how it's a big deal. He likes a different team, OH NOEZ! This is one of the many reasons I hate sports - people (fans) thinking that stuff like this matters in real life and making a stink about it.
It's a college rivalry in a time when one of the school teams is being hit with a high arrest record or something and the cop is clearly showing his favor to one side. It's basically antagonizing drunken college kids.
If I were him, I'd favor the more law-abiding team as well. Seems like a good appropriate statement for him to make IMO. Now, if he's singling his home team players out and arresting them unfairly, then that's something to look into, but simply having a sticker for the rival team - meh. Not news worthy in the least.
I guess it gives people something to make fun of someone else about. Isn't that why we make fun of Gobot fans?
Unfortunately, it's not as simple as that. Squad cars are city government property, paid by the taxpayers. They are not allowed to have ANY custom license plates on their cars of any teams, even Alabama. So, yeah, it is unlawful from what I have heard/read. And coming from the guy who started the "I Hate the Superbowl" threade, I understand why it isnt newsworthy to you; but we have plenty of sports fans here, so while you may not find it interesting, but I am sure it is a small quirk to share with my fellow college fans. It's really easy to avoid threades that don't interest you
Not my fault if you didn't like that thread, but that still doesn't mean this is news worthy in the least. It's a non-event that means zero to the world at large. It's a sports sticker on a cop car. I'm not saying that because you posted it, I'm saying that because it was a reported news item in the media in the first place. If it is proven to be unlawful, then it would be interesting to see him resist changing it. BTW, the word is "thread", not "threade". Not trying to be the grammar police, but you do it constantly.
I dunno, but I would love to hear an elephant dentist joke; I think I am an elephant dentist joke virgin.
I opened this thread thinking maybe someone tagged a cop car trying to represent some other city or something. A cop likes a football team, big deal. He probably shouldn't have the plate on there, but it doesn't really matter. I'm with megamoonman on this, why is this news?
What was the diagnosis the Italian dentist gave the elephant after he had been complaining of a painful throbbing in his mouth? Tuscaloosa!
I'm gonna go back to reading your all's posts again, except in my mind your words will be voiced by the various characters of Family Guy... Btw while we're on the subject of college football, TROJAN'S FTW! DN
See, the one I've always heard is: Why do poachers prefer to catch elephants from Alabama? Because their Tuscaloosa. (Works a bit better as a spoken joke, natch.) Meanwhile, I'm with MMM.
You are not the first person to be the grammar police on me for that word, but I have no idea why I spell it like that. Bad habit I guess. I see your point, however, about the thread. I must have read in in a different tone than you meant. For the record, it was found to be unlawful, and he had to remove it.
