I've been experimenting with some different styles for awhile now. I'm a really big fan of the simplistic yet very expressive style of Tartakovsky's, like in Samurai Jack and the (first) Clone Wars cartoon series, as well as the streamlined style of more modern cartoons like Adventure Time and Steven Universe. Trying to develop my own style with a similar but not identical design philosophy; simple designs that are still (hopefully) visually interesting. Here's my latest attempt. Did this pretty quickly, and I'm definitely not satisfied with the final result. Would love to hear any feedback you guys have! One thing I know I need to wok on is doing dynamic poses.
Oh man, that looks fantastic. I love the sharp angles and the bright colours. It's a gorgeous combination I think my only criticism is that the legs are a little bit too long. That or the head is a bit too small. Otherwise, it looks great!
Yeah, I enjoy trying to get my models to look look like 2D drawings instead of 3D renders. Thanks, man! Glad to hear! Thanks! Yeah, that would be awesome. Thanks! And yeah, I see what you're saying about the legs. I'l probably go back and rework them a bit. Did another one today.
Oh my goodness gracious that is beautiful. I'm loving the Powermaster-style shoulder cannons and the giant axe
This is definitely a huge improvement in my book. Looking forward to seeing what else you have in mind!
Thanks a lot! The Powermaster-esque cannons were a last minute decision, but I'm glad I added them. Haha, thanks! Thank yee Thanks! Yeah, I like how Optimus came out better than I do Rodimus, too. Maybe some of the greeblies, or the bright colors? Either way, being compared to Kirby is certainly not a bad thing! Thank you! I'm having a lot of fun with the new style; it's cool to try something different. Another design!
Another solid design! Reminds me of the Blackarachnia design from the completely insane but still phenomenal Transformers vs GI Joe run we had about a year back.
Thanks for all the kind comments, guys! Did something a bit different this time. -"The Metroplex heeds the call of the last Prime." The idea here is that Optimus has come to commune with an ancient, dilapidated Metroplex that has fallen apart and is basically now just ruins scattered over the land. Not sure how well that comes across! I'm having a hard time getting Sketchup to do the kinds of landscapes I want, so I've recently downloaded Blender. Going to try to model the backgrounds in that program, which is a lot more robust. Haven't learned how to use Blender yet, and I hear the learning curve is quite steep, but there seem to be lots of tutorials available. We'll see how that goes!
