They both are about the same price right now and I'm planning on giving this to my friend's kid for a birthday gift. Which one?
MP with out a doubt. I have MP Grimlock and the Leader Class Grimlock as well. I know that my 8, 6, and 4 year old (all soon to be a year older in a few months) nephews prefer MP Grimlock. The soon to be 9 year old transformed the MP by himself while he struggled and gave up on Leader AOE Grimlock.
Yea, putting aside my Geewun preference, MP Grimlock is a little more straight forward to transform then the movie one. Not to say that I didn't find the movie one fun to transform, but there is a lot of marginal tabbing going on on that figure.
MP's aren't meant for kids. . . but hey whatever floats ya boat, i know i stopped buying my nephew transformers because after a while he'd have me transforming it all the time lol
Honnest question. Why not? I trust my oldest nephew to handle all my MP's with the exception of MP-9, 9b, and MP-5 for obvious reasons. He loves the heck out of them. When he comes to visit he's always asking if I've gotten any new ones in.
Maybe it's harder for the younger kids to relate to G1 Grimlock. On the other hand the other Grimlock will be featured in the movies.
Honestly I'd say skip them both and get the kid some stuff from what's currently on the shelves at retail like some flip and change or power attacker toys (depending on age, otherwise go for deluxes and voyagers) While both MP Grimlock and Black Knight Grimlock are nice for collectors they aren't really worth the price for younger kids, Masterpiece Grimlock can be complex for younger people and truth be told they probably are going to wonder why he doesn't look like his movie counterpart. And Black Knight Grimlock you might as well just buy the US leader toy and use the extra money to pick up a few other items.
Well, this kid is pretty cool to me. He saved up his birthday money and got me Takara Tomy Buster Optimus Prime! This is the least I could do for him and besides, he's 11 years old and wants one of these two. Plus he's an expert transformer.
