Maybe TRU will start rethinking some of its pricing policies! Will TRU be able to compete with Target and Wal-Mart now? http://money.cnn.com/2006/02/07/news/companies/toys_r_us.reut/index.htm
This could potentially turn out to be a very good thing for TRU... Hopefully he'll bring TRU up to the standards of todays consumers instead of letting it wallow in the 80's like the TRUs here are...
If there is one retailer you want to model after, IMO its Target. At least this time we picked up a CEO from a successful organization, unlike the hiring of Eyler from FAO Schwartz.
Saw his presentation today, but didn't get to meet him. He is a very impressive individual. He is actually the guy who coined the phrase of describing Wal Mart as a "deadly predator" he actually said the quote was taken out of context and he was complimenting them at the time. I get the real feeling that people here are eager to work with him and he'll be able to guide us in a new direction. He referenced us as needing to be the Best Buy or Walgreens of toys and that we need to worry less about Wal Mart and more about creating an overall retainable competitive advantage. Good stuff!!
I like his mentality then. Make it worth the extra mile, make it worth my time to get to the store. I like that. I'm willing to drive to another town if the store is worth it. I'd love to see the fall of Wal-Mart, I'd be so filled with glee.
Sounds promising. I wonder if that could lead to a return of G1 reissues, but at a non-batshit insane price. (I just love that term, batshit insane... hehe)
I wonder what this means for canadains like my self? Any other canadain care to state there reaction? I for one dont think that this will change anything for canadains.
I hope that he accomplishes his goal of making Toys R Us the Walgreens or Best Buy of toys, since competition almost always means better items and lower prices for the consumer, but I don't see how anyone can fight the monstrosity that is Wal Mart. Wal Mart can afford to give away the toys at cost and still make a profit from all of the other items that people buy when they come in to shop for toys. While Toys R Us is forced to have higher prices on the toys to make a profit, since it is the only thing that they sell. I see a future populated by Wal Marts everwhere, two other much weaker Wal Mart look alikes, probably Target and K-Mart Essentials and very tiny over priced specialty stores in malls such as KayBee. I see all off mall mid level stores like Mervyns, Toys R Us, K-Mart, Office Max, etc. out of business. But, like I said, the more variety and competition, the better for us, so I will keep shopping around and hope that I'm wrong.
it can really only happen at the consumer level. I just refuse to shop there. Good Luck to TrU on thsi, i hope it helps turn them around!
Wonder if the previous CEO gave himself a HUGE bonus before leaving like the one before him did. I'm not holding my breath for anything reguarding a new CEO to turn TRU around. They change CEO's like every 4 or 5 years and the company has still being going down the crapper. -Shifty
