Do you have an airbrush or are you planning to hand paint it? Most types of modelling paints will work on this material. I recommend using matte paints to reduce reflections so that the rough surface is not as apparent. Of course, prior to painting you can give it a good sanding first.

hand paint. i was wondering if i would do a layer of primer? and do the gundam markers work on it?

thanks again for this…very fun toy. i hope you get a decent amount of money from sw. any plans on doing the head separately in frosted ultra detail?

Primer is not necessary I think since the colours are already neutral. Strong Flexible material is porous, so in most cases rub issues are not a problem.

Gundam markers should work. I'm just not sure how consistent the paint layer will be.

Yeah that turned out. This was my first shapeways experience. The WSF is very strong, I'm used to working in metal and was worried that I would just mess it up but it held up well.

The figure itself is great, once I read the comic I had to buy your model. I think I would be really interested to see how it turned out in the polished finish, I did a lot of work to get it to a point that it was paintable. I might go back and buy the head in polished just to get that focal point crisped up, but all in all a good experience.

That is very crisp work. Thanks for sharing!
I'd to ask about your white parts. Is that the original material colour or did you go over with an additional coat of white paint?

Once I sanded it I air brushed Model Masters semi gloss white on it. I had to strip the head three times and reseal it to get as smooth as I wanted it.

Still not quite there but that has nothing to do with your work, just limitations of the material.

Hey there. Just got my Trivia in the mail. Before I do anything stupid, there are two different back plates, yes? Pick A or B.

I got mine in WSF polished. Will toss up photos when he's done. My Chromedome is still awaiting a head, so don't expect group photos yet. :)

Please understand my poor Chromedome doesn't have a head yet. And I want to seal them both up yet.

Egad! I'm so sorry about that. Have you contacted Shapeways customer service? Usually they are quite good about sending replacements. If that doesn't work, let me know and I see if I can prepare a replacement hand for you.

    Glad you like it though!

Yeah, I emailed them about it as soon as I didn't see it anywhere. You know, things happen so I'm not getting bend out of shape or anything. I can't wait to paint him up a little later tonight! Thanks! :)

Painting this guy was kind of terrifying, he's just so small and I'm a complete beginner. XD I adore him though, love how much articulation he has!

I'll add some pictures of mine when I get home from work! Really hoping for a sunny day so I can take him on an adventure outside. XD
