gimme chromedome and retool him into arcee
then remove Daniel give him a new name and kill the kid
I can't believe you are even conceding it's the same aesthetic. It's nowhere even near.
The original TF head designs and such were based on things like samurai gear and medieval knight helmets.
I'm sorry, but IDW TF heads look like crustaceans with all those jagged pointy random bits.
Can you actually give any examples of characters who look like that? Because I'm honestly drawing a blank.
This image sums up why I despise IDW designs.
Really? IDW TFs don't look anything like Figueroa's run on the old Ongoing anymore. And that style was almost universally despised.
Even though I'm not the hugest fan of the current IDW comics' aesthetic (some characters look great, many do not, imo), IDW comics characters is the look that current Generations figures absolutely SHOULD be going for.
For those of us that want more traditional interpretations of the characters, there are other places to get that. Masterpiece, 3P, whatever. But the current mainline toys and current comics SHOULD be supporting each other. It's the entire point. Now, whether that means the toys should be modeled after the comic characters or that the comic characters should be drawn to better resemble the current toys is another discussion.
The thing I'm trying to say is that if they're supposedly doing movie-accurate toys, IDW design shouldn't creep in if they're going for pure accuracy.
I mean, I think Generations Magnus is a great toy in SPITE of the IDW influence, not because of it. And hell, I love the IDW Bumblebee mold, largely because we got an awesome Nightbeat out of it.
If they still looked like that, I wouldn't be reading anymore either. The best writer can be destroyed by terrible art. And vice versa. (I loved Don's art until he went to that new style)
While I agree that those designs look horrible, that's from 2009. The art styles a lot different now
I wish the generations figures looked like that. I actually like this look over the current ones any day."Ducks under a table ".
By "aesthetic", I meant smooth, curvy, amped-with-inner-detail designs. Wouldn't you use that to describe the IDW models? I would.
And for the record, I enjoyed Figueroa's art/designs.
I don't mind curves, but I do mind the ridiculous shoulder...pads(?) and pointless knee-wings. I also dislike the head/helmet design, with the cartoon-ish face and spikes all coming off of it. It looks like the baseborn product of a union between Animated and Bayverse. Don't even get me started on the idiotic leg design. Is he supposed to look like he's wearing chaps? Why does he have robo-chaps? Why are the IDW designs so stupid? Why?
Not really mad, but this is why I laugh at the terrible art design.
If by support you mean Hasbro dictates the design of the comics, sure. Because that is what would happen. Heck, I doubt some of the IDW designs are even feasible from an engineering point-of-view.
Regarding the designs: I like to see synergy between Hasbro and IDW. If that is in the form of Generations Whirl that's fine, if it's Leader Ultra Magnus that's even better. This is the acceptable range for me, what I don't want is toys that look NOTHING like IDW or G1: you got to get me somewhere in that range.
Classics Optimus and Megatron is way to out of the range for my taste
Transformers Fandom Wars: IDW vs Le Geewun
I agree with that notion.
Oh, and also, Johntimus Prime, the person who originally started this argument over G1 vs IDW, the artist you are referring to only did art for EIGHT ISSUES OF THE 2009-2011 ONGOING. RESEARCH BEFORE YOU FRIGGING POST.
Lmao I laughed so hard when i saw that post.
It was like he said "I don't know what IDW is but I'm not familiar with it so I don't like it!" and then proceeded to find the most unattractive artwork of IDW designs he could find.
Sorry but some of you in this thread come off like this in regards to IDW
Those designs haven't been used for a few years. If you're going to make an argument about IDW, please, do your research, and make the argument somewhat reasonable.
Still, there's a difference between not liking a design for what it is - which is obviously how you feel, and that's okay - and not liking it because it's a "knockoff" of something.
Regardless, we get it, everybody - some people like IDW art, some don't, and some use bad references for their arguments. Let's move on, please.
You do understand that people can like non-G1 but still dislike IDW's designs, right? I don't want a G1 Hot Rod, Classics works for me. I just don't want a chance at another awesome Hot Rod / Rodimus wasted on a terrible design.
