Credit also due to @Timesynch for providing the scans :thumb

Confirmation that MP-32 Optimus Primal was designed by Hironori Kobayashi.

These designers must have done thousands of designs that they can't even remember some of their greatest work!

What a fantastic read!!! Thank you so much @Deruji. Really enjoyed the comments from the designers re: “Convoy is...!?”

Oh, and Kobayashi’s comment about hiding the side wheels hahah.

Awesome work, Deruji! Glad the scans were in good hands thanks to Sam. :D

Kobayashi did a phenomenal job with MP-32 Optimus Primal!

The Ultimate Convoy, eh? Sounds promising! It's a fantastic time to be a TF fan!

That said, now I want a G1 Encore reissue of Convoy. I missed out on him a few times and I've been tempted to get one secondhand. They should do it for the 35th Anniversary alongside this potential "Ultimate Convoy".

Nice to finally see Kobayashi credited for MP Beast Convoy and to learn that Kunihiro did LG Super Ginrai (or did he just design the base TR PM OP? Doesn't come across very clearly).

Interesting. By "Ultimate" Convoy, Kobayashi and Hasui both refered to the MP Convoys they designed(MP01/MP10 respectively). In addition, it's implied that POTP Prime was a result of them thinking about how to make an "ultimate" Convoy for the mainline, using a different gimmick from last year.

When they say "stoic", then reference being able to hide the wheels in robot mode as an advantage, I think they actually mean "static". As in by hiding the wheels in robot mode, there's less visual/obvious indication that Convoy can transform into a truck, thus, the "static" look. These guys are serious about making robots in disguise.

Seems like the only information regarding the upcoming 35th anniversary Convoy was the teaser pic itself.

    Great work.

This it's definitely a great tease for a great reveal.(OPTIMUS MP V3 BABYYYYYY)

Also i find it interesting how Takashi Kunhiro still considers the ROTF Optimus prime as the one who best tries to recreate the character even with the Masterpiece released.

Great translation, Deruji. I just said "Doshukoi" out loud and my Japanese schoolkids on the bus started doing sumo fights at each other...

Granted that the "Ultimate Convoy" isn't explicitly stated as a new Convoy figure (only in reference to each designer's past respective work on their own individual Convoy figures like MP-1 and MP-10) and only a teaser sketch about a possible new project (and that could mean anything, really) but the bread crumbs of a possible new Convoy toy are there, I think. Looking forward to a more definitive reveal!

Daaamn isn't that Aaron Archer?, does Kobayashi not remember him??

I always felt it was kinda overrated, so I like how the designer himself doesnt rmember making rotf prime lol

    Teaase!

I didn't get the sense that he was mocking ROTF OP, only a bit of self deprecating humor poking fun at himself for perhaps being too busy and/or old to have remembered working on movie Prime.

Dude (Kunihiro) has been with Takara and the TF brand since the very beginning in '84, after all. Imagine being with the same company working the same job for almost 35 years!
