Plus I was told that the item I want is a lottery draw. Which makes me wonder how many the vendor actually has at the convention entirely.

I'm just going to have to wait 2 weeks until ebay has it in stock and I saved up the pennies. But this may be the most expensive thing I have ever bought.

 

Please everyone just chill and count on finding a set after SDCC. Please don't post any more of those random prices you see on Ebay in this thread before these even get released, because doing that may just artificially inflate the price for no good reason.

People that are listing and trying to sell them now don't even have them in hand, so whatever $$ sign they put on it now is arbitrary.

They are not shitty. Engineering on them is really clever, especially Dial. And for someone who loves the G1 microcasette-formers, they are a must-have. Of course I'd not spend that money on them either, but thanks to KOs both these casettes and the also super rare and expensive Japan-only headmasters (Kirk, Leone, Shuffler and co) were available for more affordable prices online. You just had to be lucky to grab them when they were, as they were pretty limited in release, but not as limited as the originals.
I have the KOs of the casettes, just took them out to transform them again, and I love them. I imagine the quality of these will be better (the thin plastic parts on Dial's KO are prone to cracking, though not catastrophically, and the stickers don't stick as well as original G1 ones).

Yes, the same Hasbro who dug out or reproduced the molds to these super rare G1 toys... they have no idea that they are driving up the demand...  
The same Hasbro who made new Titan Master versions of the also super rare Japan-only Headmasters Lione (Sawback) and Shuffler...

Kudos to them for releasing the dino-cassettes but looking at those god-awful colors I got thrown back to a terrible time when Hasbro couldn't get an homage right to save their lives, unless it was an exclusive.


.....unless those times never really ended and I've been away from the collecting scene too long

To me they're still shit. *shrug* After MMC Jaguar nothing short of mp cassettes has any kind of impressive engineering.

In all fairness, I don't think it's "triggering" or being upset that someone doesn't like something you don't like. It's all in the phrasing.

Coming out and declaring something as "shit" is going to get a reaction, period. Full stop. If I go to a motorcycle show and declare that a Harley Davidson is a garbage bike, then I'd better expect someone to passionately disagree with me. I don't think I could in good faith sit there and tell the guy disagreeing with me that he's upset because I have an opinion he doesn't like and is therefore triggered if I called his favorite thing "shit".

In other words, coming into a public forum and declaring something that many people might like is garbage and then getting defensive and using the latest buzzwords to dismiss any strong disagreement is sort of a gauche move. We're all better than that.

Personally, I think it's neat that they're re-releasing a toy that very few people had access to as a kid. Dunno if I'll buy them as I usually don't touch G1 vintage or re-releases, but I definitely think that these guys are on the top end of the engineering scale, especially for tape bots.

 

It will never happen but I’d love to see the four dinosaur cassettes be done as masterpiece toys. Masterpiece would surely fix the flaws of the original toy appearances. They may be super rare, but the four look crappy compared to the other cassettes.

 

There's no way around it. I want these. I'll get them if I'm able. I'll even feature them on my blog when the time comes that I'm able to do so.

But when I feature these guys' combined robot mode, I'm going to have to comment on how bizarre that mode looks...

 

Eh. There's always that off chance that a 3P company will try and tackle it, which will likely be good enough for most.

 

This would make sense... If not for the fact that several posters in this very thread called the Bumblebee toy in this set shit, crap, Bay abomination, etc. And lo and behold, there was no massive outcry.

I'll use whatever words I like and in this case 'triggered' felt very apropos.
