This is awesome. I wonder if this means that Encore Dinocassettes could be around the corner.

That's where I'm at as well. I do like the paintjob on Bumblebee, and I would love the chance to experience the dino-cassettes.
The packaging is also cool enough to not break the set up. It just looks good.

Wow, that reissue announcement came out of nowhere. I honestly wouldn't mind getting that set because $60 is a great price for those two cassettes considering their past value. But not sure if I'm going to have the extra funds to get a set of those though (IF I can get HTS to work at the time that is). I know the Dino-settes are a big nod to fans but if I could nitpick slightly, I think the set would be a bit more appealing (as if it wasn't already, I know) if they could have released a possible new Bumblebee 2018 movie style VW Bee figure in gold as a sort of "preview" release.

What a bizarre thing to reissue.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first/only instance of a G1 mold being released by Hasbro without having previously been reissued by Takara.

    Wonder if that means anything.

Was there a Takara reissue of Trypticon prior to Hasbro's Platinum Edition version? And No, Beast Wars Second Gigastorm doesn't count.

I just Googled and you are correct, Trypticon is indeed a Hasbro reissue without a Takara Tomy one. Huh.

Actually it was issued in Japan for Takara Tomy mall as an exclusive under their Lucky Draw prize limited to 300 pieces. He was labeled as a USA edition.

So... there is a bit of legitimacy to the deco on Bumblebee.

Not terribly "80s", though. They stopped using it in '81.

...but very eighties high-school-parking-lot; it'd fit right in among the sea of five-to-ten-year-old used cars, aftermarket cassette deck and all...

I sense a lot of Bumblebees being separated from the dino cassettes.

But that was just the Hasbro Platinum Edition version made available in Japan, no? Not an actual (limited) Takara reissue that actually preceded the Hasbro release?

Then again, Commemorative Series IX Ricochet was released concurrently with Transformers Collection Stepper, and was actually initiated by Hasbro if I'm not mistaken.

The Beast Wars reissue of Trypticon absolutely counts, as it shows that Takara knew where the mold was and was responsible for its upkeep.

Hasbro hasn't initiated any G1 reissues on their own, so it's very odd that these super rare and obscure Japanese cassettes would be the first. Surely there will be some kind of Takara release.

Beast Wars Gigastorm was released in 1998, and had retooling. If that counts as a “re-issue”, then by that logic RID Baldigus and universe Optimus Primal count as re-issues.

Beast Wars Second Gigastorm was released in 1998. Platinum Edition Trypticon was released in 2015. That's a 17-year gap.

By that logic, Hasbro initiated the reissues of G1 Optimus Prime, Prowl, Ironhide, Inferno, Jazz, Sideswipe and Tracks. All of them were reissued by Hasbro in Europe in 1990 ("Classic Heroes" Prowl, Ironhide, Inferno and Jazz in 1990, "Original Autobot Leader" Optimus Prime and "Classic Heroes" Sideswipe and Tracks in 1991), which was "only" 10-13 years before all of them were reissued by Takara (original Convoy reissue in 2000, World Character Convention 12 exclusive "Collectors' Edition" Lambor and e-Hobby exclusive "Collectors' Edition" Ironhide in 2001, "Transformers Collection" Meister, Prowl and Tracks in 2002, "Transformers Collection" Inferno in 2003).

Those cassettes are rad as hell. Even if Takara does reissue them (and more?) in their normal decos, I want that Uruaz. I'd sell that Bee, super cheap.

It doesn't count. It was missing accessories, it was modified at the mold level and it was a different character altogether for a different line altogether. That's not a reissue, that's a reuse. There's a difference between the two. A significant difference. The reissue series Trypticon is apart of didn't even exist when Takara made their mess of a release. That's just no. No.

Hasbro released him as a reissue with all accessories and original tooling, not Takara. Again, Takara piggybacking off of Hasbro's efforts as of late.

He doesn't, they don't. onnsake just wants to be nitpicky. Good catch, though.

Truth. (Don't make Nevermore break out the facts, you'll regret it.)
