The weird thing about this figure Is that it IS a Mav and Rooster Tomcat. Their names are stencilled below the cockpit.

The figure is meant to represent their original Tomcat after being put out to pasture, not any other Tomcat that might appear in other Top Gun films.

Id love this repaint their as Jetfire even in a clean deco.

I just want to say I finally watched Maverick yesterday and I fucking love this figure even more as a result, flaws and all. Such a great moment to see the Cat in the movie...

We need a Maverick F-/A-18 Super Hornet or DarkStar TF now!

Dunno where you got that from, Maverick is a Mav/Goose Tomcat. I'd love a Mav/Rooster version from the sequel with a better overall paint job, hopefully with a slightly darker gray.

Gyah..I meant a Mav/Goose repaint. I would pay nicely for a factory painted realistic F14...VF-84 please...

    I am an idiot, basically.

What I meant was that this figure as far as I can tell is the Tomcat from Top Gun 1 if it was left in a junkyard forever, which is not a plot point of Maverick.

As long as we get Transformers and not Movieverse Monstrosities. I'd be all in for that.

It's pretty rich to bag out the series that have given us a massive swath of figures with realistic combat aircraft alt modes.

Off the top of my head from the Movieverse we've had

F-22 - Starscream and various seeker repaints
F-35 - Breakaway, Thrust, various repaints
    SR-71 - Jetfire
Mig-29 - Dreadwing, Stormcloud, various repaints
    Su-47 - Terradive, Space Case
    Albatross D.III - Ransack, Divebomb
    F-117 - Mindwipe, Strafe
P38 Lightning (ish, if you squint your eyes and tilt your head a bit) - Highbrow, Powerdive
    BAE Corax - Skystalker, Sunspot
    Eurofighter Typhoon - Hatchet
    A-10 - Powerglide
    V-22 Osprey - Incinerator
    Eurocopter (ish, again) - Tomahawk
The mashup that was ROTF Stratosphere
    E-767 - DOTM Air Raid
Whatever Studio Series Blitzwing transforms into (I maintain it's a gimped Su-27).

In the movie he was. The toy is a weird looking thing though.

If I had to guess I'd say it was a late change to the movie character's alt-mode, and that the toy was designed while the movie was in pre-production (though not released for about a year after). The Su27 was the USSR's most advanced air superiority fighter at the time, so that would fit for a villain.

HasTak made EarthRise Starscream around the same time which is unlicensed but also very obviously an F-15. Both the F-15 and the F-4 are McDonnell Douglas craft. I don't think it's a licensing issue. It has to have been a deliberate choice for some reason.

Just received my reissue from Hasbro Pulse. As expected, the volleyball and alternate hand have been removed but he still has the motorcycle. The dates on the dog tags pictured on the box have been updated to 2022 as well. Joints are better on this release than my first copy. My original yellowed pretty bad so I sold it. I'm hoping Hasbro was able to fix the issue and it won't happen to this version.

Was anything changed with the deco, like less weathering applied?

The weathering looks a bit lighter but it could just be my imagination, I don't have the original anymore to compare. The box seemed smaller as well.

That’s a drag they took things out, but I may buy a new one to keep sealed. It looked really cool in the box.

Finally got around to buying this guy. Being in the Navy, I’m happy to own him despite the poor paint choices. I wish this 2022 release came with the volleyball, but oh well. I can see what others were saying about this feeling like a rushed or unfinished figure; between him and Gigawatt, the latter is much better.

Biggest issue with mine is that the visor isn’t fully painted and the helmet livery is misaligned :/ The headsculpt is the highlight of this figure considering there’s barely any paint on it, so it kinda sucks that it didn’t turn out nicer. I can try to live with it, but it definitely bothers me. If I email Hasbro customer service, they’ll probably just offer me another figure of equal value or some nonsense. Idk if it’d be worth asking them; but all I need is a replacement head. Or if anyone on here has a better head and they don’t mind offloading it, I’d be willing to pay for it..

Hey, anyone with the 2022 reissue of this guy, has he suffered the same yellowing as the 2020 version, or did they update the materials to avoid it?

They did not. I just got this from WM's $25 sale and it's really unacceptable, so I ordered a replacement and it's already down to $20 a day later.
