    Yup--got mine today!

    And...

...yeah. I don't know if I have an 'improved' version. The head BARELY clears under the glass chest piece. Transformed back and forth a couple of times and no scraping. But I don't know if I have anything different with mine. If the difference is "just barely clearing by micrometers," I kind of have to wonder if there's no difference with mine and others that are scraping, and I maybe got lucky with some of the clearance. Mine is 02391

I did find that with my copy, the back tab that goes against the neck was actually keeping the head from tilting as far back as it should. Took him apart and sanded that down a bit, and his head movement is much better. If you're having issues with the head not moving, that tab might be pushing up against it too much. You take the screw under his chest out, and the whole windshield comes off, (and lets go of the shoulder frame that connects to his chest). The reverse side of that windshield piece has that gray tab behind his neck sticking out. try moving the neck around without that tab pressing on it to see if the tightness is just in the ball-and-socket part (mine was fine). If it's not tight once removed, sand that tab down a little and test-fit. Otherwise, see if the 'seem' around the ball joint is too thick, and maybe sand that down (VERY lightly!).

Okay. That makes a certain amount of sense, thanks. But what is the advantage to any position other than “forward?” Anything else makes clearance worse and isn’t necessary for transformation or articulation.

No idea it just seems to have an effect that keeps the paint from scraping ,Like maybe the head moves with the chest joint easily reducing friction on the paint or something. plus all the way back lets him look up a bit and middle is a nice neutral pose, forward is looking down a bit or for very boring kubrick stare,
I wish we had more people with the same type of copy so they could tell us what the heck is going on

So do I want his head forward or back? I'm not going to transform him a bunch but it'd be good to know.

I'm really not sold on the existence of an "updated version," as opposed to factory variance in the tightness of the neck joint. My Gigawatt's head only barely tilts forward by maybe 1-2mm, which leaves like a TARDIGRADE-SCALED distance between the two pieces and the numbers have not scraped off after 30+ very slow and careful transformations.

forward, like chin touching the chest panel forward and rotated slightly to the side
How far back does it go? and what is your manufacturing number? does it tilt in all directions enough for the head to bump into the panel it's on like a joystick? also when was it delivered? these answers may help us

Odd... I ordered 2 from Hasbro Pulse, but only one arrived today. Anyone else run into that?

Box stamp 02341. Was part of the first GameStop delivery wave received around Nov.7.

I thought I had one with a better neck joint because my 9 is still there. But I just noticed that the 1 is completely gone. So mine says 955 instead of 1955. To be honest I was so focused on the 9 because that’s the number that has been scraped off for people that I’m not even sure if I ever had a 1. It’s so completely gone it makes me wonder.

On the plus side I can easily open and close the doors without scraping the black paint off the rear fender. If you push on the rear fender part while opening the door it causes his whole waist to rotate a bit and gives you clearance.

If the solution to avoid paint scraping is to move a part to allow for a few millimeters of clearance, it's a poor design.

So like mine good copy. Hmm. Could be like the quintesson judge where wraith was either extremely easy to put on or near impossible

Exactly. I keep trying different things during transformation in case I'm doing something wrong but as far as I can tell there's only one way to do it and it's guaranteed to rub on mine. I can move the head a little but it doesn't actually clear, it just rubs a little less.

This is what happened when Biff stole the time machine from the Institute of Future Technology.

So following up on mine--the swing tip of the 9 is starting to rub off. Clearance isn't really happening. Think I'll try shaving at the back of the head later.
