I wouldn't worry about it yet. I think this is speculators and people either being idiots or outright scamming to inflate value. The general release hasn't even had a preorder put up yet. I'd keep the panic in check.

This is one of the most iconic vehicles ever made and to have such an eye sore dead set in the middle of the vehicle is extremely disappointing. Sure the robot mode is cool, and they clearly designed that first and sacrificed the vehicle mode. But in my opinion was a complete mistake and will cost them in sales, which isn't the entire point of selling this? They are advertising and packaging it as the Delorean from Back to the Future, a massively popular Blockbuster film. More care should have been taken to represent what they were trying to sell.

 

Am I the only one hoping for an astrotrain repaint as the Back to the future train? just like we had a MP Optimus after Ectotron reveal....?

I'll take an Earthrise Astrotrain BTTF time-train too.

 

I'd like to see them use the earthrise Astrotrain mold for it but I'd rather them make it a new decepticon character like how they introduced Gigawatt.

 

I'd prefer that too. I love how the car from Ghostbusters doesn't transform into Optimus and Gigawatt doesn't transform into Sideswipe or Tracks. I hope all subsequent crossover toys will be new characters too.

 

My guess is the windshield has to be the same color as the Flux Capacitor casing. If so, I'd prefer they:

1. Not case the Flux Capacitor, tint/blackout the windshield
2. Airbrush the tint on the windshield as a deco app and raise the price $5 if they have to maybe with some frost deco apps on the hood too.
3. Go for a medium tint that doesn't hide any of the junk but makes it less obvious.

I do have a feeling we'll be getting an all frosted up Gigawatt at some point.

 

I would like to see the PotP Optimus as a new character called Hoverlord.

I'd be fine with it being INSPIRED BY 2015 fashion from the movies. Maybe Hoverlord is a Junkion, going with BTTF 2015's advertising overload.

Heck, I'd be down with the futuristic BTTF Pepsi bottle. Or Biff's flying BMW as a Decepticon. Or the police cars. This is a franchise that lends itself to multiple crossovers.

 

It won't. Because the gimmick is the Delorean having a bot mode. Most people will display it that way as TF fans like robots and BttF fans likely already have tons of Delorean merch on display.

Mainly because every Back to the Future Time Machine release I can think of for the past 10 years has had a "frosted" variant.

Granted, by that logic, we could expect an Ecto-1A Ectotron.

It's hard to say what the Ghostbusters plans are. With a master license and John Warden off TFs (and on Ghostbusters and Power Rangers, I think?) maybe we'll see more GB TFs. The difference with Ectotron IMHO is that he was designed for the Masterpiece "ecosystem". So I could almost see them redoing Ectotron smaller as a CHUG sized figure before they continue down that line. As I've noted before, the Counterpunch body would probably be a solid base that would feel at home with WFC and Studio Series.

Hasbro has to do something to justify that master license and Plasma series isn't lighting the world on fire.

I don't think this will happen but it's a good idea and would get another use out of the astrotrain tooling. I would totally buy it if it happened.

 

If it came with a nano DeLorean or a micromaster that fits in the tinder, that'd be cool.

 

I would argue it has two other gimmicks. Opening gull wing doors and the wheels being able to turn into hover conversion mode.
