If you look in many continuities the Transformers always transformed on Cybertron. But it occurred to me during a long walk to school that this isn't the case in the movie universe (not including comics). In the scene on Cybertron did we see any bots in alt modes? I didn't. They were all humanoid. There were not TF jets or tanks - only warriors who only had a re-entry form but this changed when they came to earth. This may be old to everyone else but I've never thought about it until recently.
Wrong, Megatron. The "entry modes" are just modes they take for planetary entry. They don't have them all the time. Besides, those are still alternate modes, and they're still Transformers. Hell, even their ships transform.
Well, that only seems to be the case for DOTM. In TF1, Megatron transformed into a cybertronian Jet. In Reign of starscream, every character had alien-esque alternate modes. Maybe they did in DOTM for a more solider-like battlefield.
Yeah, but they can still transform. Movie 1 Megatron had no real kibble on him, yet he still transforms.
I think the point is that it's still an alien vehicle mode, namely Cybertronian, regardless of kibble. That was only said in the Comics and Novels, and isn't really evident in the film itself.
It boils down to the argument that they are "Robots in Disguise" and on Cybertron why would they need to disguise them selves. As it explained in the comics though, they turn into functional vehicles (without windows) that are armoured, during the war anyway. Before, they would probably transform into a car because it's easier than walking I guess. Also, in Dark of the Moon, Sentinel has windows on his chest before he picks up an Earth mode, this could be considered as Decoration for his Cybertronian mode. And, where his fire truck wheels later appear behind his knees, there are Metal discs, these could be wheels for his Cybertronian mode, as I would think they wouldn't know what rubber is.
