Writing and story typically go hand-in-hand.

Yes! But the main story of this Transformers show is the seige of cybertron, just think of it like X-men dark Phoenix saga from the 90s cartoon. Just one big event involving characters we’ve known from the TF franchise

But a story is a sum of its parts and, if the writing isn't all bad, it can still make for a decent narrative. I'm hedging my bets that not every line in every episode will be utter trash. Fingers crossed.

I really hope the irony of your name being Trevor Belmont and complaining about a short first season and assuming quality is not lost on you.

A 2-hour movie needs a central plot. A series normally has a bit of meandering and side plots without the urgency of finishing each arc that a movie has. Plus, cus it’s a series, each episode is written with the idea of “eh, it’s one part of a bigger series” as apposed to “every scene should work within the plot” that a 2-hour movie has.

Totally possible. I watched the documentary series “a year in space” and it was basically a movie that was broken up into several 12min chunks. I appreciate the thought behind it but in practice it was annoying to skip the intro every 12mins.

Everyone's all upset that it's only six episodes, and here I am relieved it's only six episodes, meaning it won't be quite so painful if the show turns out as bad as it looks.

You're far more optimistic than I am.

I kinda thought TF fans were over this immature fascination with having a "dark and gritty" Transformers cartoon that takes these fun, beloved and colourful characters and strips them of anything resembling their original personas.

It must be asked though...is Ultra Magnus's cloak made from space plants?

The problem with a short run is that you've got zero space/wiggle room. What I and I suspect many are really craving is a series which can go a number of places with various characters and ventures, all with a overarching narrative tying it altogether... But that's probably a tad unrealistic :)

The visual style looks ok imho - cuts a decent middle line between previous animation and video games whilst obviously hewing pretty close to the toys in form and basically fulfilling expectations.

The voice fx is not ideal for me, and I'm pretty certain already the acting side of it is going to be a fairly forgettable aspect of the show.

The story narrative I could actually give or take as long as the characterisations and action are inspiring enough.

People need to let go of the Money Oum myth... Rooster Teeth was never how it was presented and as deserving as Oum was of much credit it's a complete misrepresentation to lionize him at the expense of others.

Yeah, I guess it really depends on what perspective they tackle the story from.

To be fair, with the Castlevania series you can count the number of important characters on one hand. With Transformers, especially at this point in the timeline there are many characters vying for screentime which makes it impossible to do them justice in such a short time. That said, this already looks and sounds lightyears better than the Machinima animations that moved and spoke at 2mph with the shallowest writing possible and a plot that went nowhere. We've been burned before so it's easy to be sceptical. I hope it's at least on par with Castlevania.

    No. Did you?

But the animation moved much faster. Not 20 seconds of Ultra Magnus slow-walking.

Not sure if it's been brought up yet, but do we know if this shares continuity with the ongoing IDW comic? Since they both share Siege designs, and Megs is giving something of a political rally, it kinda gave me those vibes.

The Prime Wars Trilogy episodes all added up to about movie length. Anybody noticing a pattern?

    Sadly, no, it doesn't.

I've been thinking about this too. I certainly hope so and frankly have just assumed it was but I don't think it was ever explicitly stated. It was mentioned as being part of the brand unification initiative they've been doing to align the toys comics and other media to be in synch, at least visually.

It's a catch-22. If it's successful, we will get more of the same. If it fails, we may get no more shows.

I don't know what we have to do to get Hasbro to give us better quality shows.
