I'm pretty sure that the chest, while a similar shape, actually has different sculpting on it, if you compare the art to the toy. (there's slots for tabs on his pecs!) And this wave's packaging art at least seems to be extremely drawn-from-the-toy. So I wouldn't be surprised if the chest is also new. Mostly what's being kept seems to be the inner torso workings and the forearms.

Then why isn't the chest accurate to the G1 toy?
    Hmm?

Im a big fan of the skugrin mold, so im optimistic that this will turn out well. Only concern is like you said the tank mode

I'm really liking how Straxus looks aside from him being a pulse exclusive. Despite being a retool of Kingdom Galvatron he's got many new parts, and his chest is now three-piece that wraps around the cannon underbelly.

One thing that really bugs me is that he's got the "paint budget exceeds plastic budget" problem. His red shoulders are blue plastic smeared in red paint, which... Actually doesn't look too bad. It kind of lends to the 'ink colour bleed' effect that old comics used to have.

What I'm MUCH less lenient towards, however, is that grey plastic peg jutting out beneath the cannon barrel in vehicle mode. It seems his entire cannon barrel is grey plastic painted blue (then black streaks added on top). But I'm also confused because the 5mm peg that connects into the cannon port is blue, which makes me wonder if the barrel is made of 2 pieces of plastic (1 grey, 1 blue) or if the peg for the port was accidentally painted blue, which might make it an unnecessarily tighter fit and needing the paint to be sanded off.

Quake does have a new chest that's accurate to the original toy, it just doesn't appear to have any of the silver details from the original toy's stickers. Hopefully it's just a mistake with the art and the actual toy has those details painted.

It looks like the legs are pretty seriously retooled, so I'm thinking we could see him having a much denser tank mode, with a similar leg transformation to Hound or Brawn, with the legs extending down the sides of the vehicle mode

I hope you're right. Doesn't seem so to me. But I can't make out too much from that picture. Most of his body is obscured by his left cannon.

Yeah, it's tough to tell. But you can barely see that in the middle of the chest Quake seems to have recessed detail whereas Skullgrin has protruding detail in that area.

Well, we can't really see it well enough in the art to say whether the sculpt is accurate or not? So I don't have an answer to this?

i mean if your issue is that it's less flat than it usually is, it's probably because it needs to remain the same shape as the previous toy's chest in order to keep the transformation working

But there's no way to know, at this point in time, if the surface detail on the front of that new chest is accurate to Quake's usual chest.

Yeah, he certainly looks like a retool. Hopefully they retooled him enough to give him a G1-ish Quake tank alt instead of that anemic "thing" Legacy Skullgrin turns into.

I would have laughed if Darkmount had just been retooled from Skullgrin.

    Again.

Instead it looks like Quake is getting that treatment

I can see it in the chest and the toes (I think?) but I need circles or something to see what other parts could Quake borrow from Skullgrin. (Yeah, I'm an idiot, why do you ask?)

My only hope for Quake is that he doesn't have any of Skullgrin's weird soft plastic.

Like, soft plastic sword-guns and transformation joints? Give us a break…

Yaaaaaaa... The soft plastic for that was unnecessary. Yet coronation scream couldn't get the cape in softer plastic...

I'm still hoping that the eventual new Sky-Byte mold borrows the tail articulation engineering from BW Transmetal II Megatron. And if they retooled such a mold into a mainline version of Cyberverse Hammerbyte, I'd have to pick him up too.

Honestly I could be in on this mold multiple times.

    Sky Byte
    CyberShark
    Helwarp

Id love to see them really go all out if the mould is a good one.

Looking forward to an updated Sky-Byte, although sadly he'll be smaller than the TakTom Generations version I have.
