Why? Won't it turn yellow in a year too?

 

My brother's a massive Top Gun fan so I bought one for him and one for myself. Upon getting him, I immediately wanted more of them as there's so many figs he can double as and it's a legitimately good figure. 91% alcohol fixes the paint job.  

 

This makes sense to rerelease it, especially with how the movie getting good reviews.

 

Will get him and let him do his Tom Cruise thing for a bit, then paint him into the joe sky striker.

 

So Top Gun means nothing to me, but this news is interesting since it sets the precedent for store exclusives to have potential rereleases. Netflix Soundwave being high on so many people's lists & all.

I'm getting this figure because I'm turning him into Leader-1. Now I just need a figure to turn into Cy-Kill (which won't be as easy as turning Maverick into Leader-1).
The jet mode of Maverick does look pretty nice though. Just wish he was painted more in robot mode, but save that for my DIY  
I was also thinking, with a bit of retooling, this mold makes a great Cyberjet for Legacy!

I am likely going to buy another - I might try spraying it with varnish see if that can stop it from going yellow - at least I know which parts go yellow/green from my original - which is only any good as custom fodder now due the much discussed discoloration that effects far far to much lately.

Though if this is old over production that was never boxed up and not a new production run then it will just as likely discolour as well.

 

If they use new plastic that actually doesn't look like it came from a milk jug, I'm down.

 

Passed on it the first time for that horrible milky plastic. If they do something different this time I might bite, because it does otherwise look like a nice figure. Might grab one anyway and give it a full repaint if there's no actual improvements.

Yes, please! G2 Jetfire is one of my favorite designs for the character, second only to the Macross Super Valkyrie look, and I'm still waiting for a new and improved version. Perhaps I'll try customizing one out of this mold, if Hasbro doesn't give us an official version. Speaking of Macross, though...

That would be nice, too, but how much do you want to bet Harmony Gold will try to sue Hasbro again? If they can somehow get away with it, though, I'd be happy to have another Super Valkyrie Jetfire. The Classics and Thrilling 30 versions are cool, but not perfect. The former isn't very posable and becomes extremely top-heavy with the booster pack attached, and as for the latter, I'm not a fan of the hollow parts, fake cockpit, or permanently tilted ankles. If it can't be done, G2 is the next best thing (if you ask me, anyway).

 

Did anyone mention the shit plastic of the first release?

I'd totally buy one that wasn't that awful stuff.
Betting starts now - I say re-release will be same plastic, but all painted up at a sizeable price increase.

 

Strongly agreed on the previous Jetfires .I think another Stormbringer-inspired figure or maybe something Cyberverse-inspired is definitely the more likely way for us to get a new non-Sunbow Jetfire, but if they would dare to try it, a more Macrossy Jetfire from this design would make me even happier. They could do one major reshell (basically keeping most of the engineering but all-new parts, with the jet mode turned into a swing wing F-22 lookalike and robot mode parts based on T30 or War Within Jetfire) and release it on its own as Hooligan and G2 Jetfire, and then give it a new head and weapon and add the armor and booster pack for G1 Jetfire. Then to get even more use out of the mold, they could do another new head and change the wings to regular F-22 wings for Machine Wars Megatron and Megaplex.
