That is absolutely hideous. God, shmucks like this person and Livio get covers, while Milne gets booted off of the comic he made great? IDW is starting to smell a whole lot like Dreamwave, what'd they hire Pat Lee as their new editor?

As for this cover, it looks like someone is trying to channel Art Adams, only semi-successfully.

 

He's not working on it, and currently hasn't been given any LL issues to work on or been given any information from IDW as to why the change was made. The only information he currently has, according to him, is that he would be alternating arcs with Lawrence. It's not necessarily final, but booted sounds like the right term.

 

Alternating arcs is how publishers keep their books on schedule. Almost everybody does it now.

I will agree with you that Lawrence is a poor substitute for Milne, though.

 

The key point here is that they didn't tell him this was going to happen, and still haven't sent him anything to work on. This is according to his twitter (which I could have misread), it's very possible there's something we don't know, but IDW could have done a lot by simply telling their employee why this was happening. Either way, IDW has been making some really awful decisions lately, like the Revolution event, the cutting of the page count, and using artists like this person and Livio.

 

I\'ll be honest, I don\'t like it. It\'s just not a style that fits the genre, and I feel like it kind of strips the character of what values she has for the sake of depicting her as something cutesy. Or at least it makes me feel like she\'s comparable to a generic anime girl. Which is not a good thing. Also as a cover its hella boring.

 

I think all the things you think of as awful decisions come down to money. Cutting page count is something DC did as well, several years back, in order to hold off on jacking up prices in the face of inflation and rising costs. IDW's print runs are all pretty small, so they could really be feeling the heat, even by a small drop off like they've been seeing. Cutting pages isn't something they do for the fun of it; it's a survival measure.

Revolution is also a desperate attempt at larger sales.

And even the Lawrence/Milne thing may come down to money. Who knows. Or you could have misread the tweet, like you admit might be the case. But I'm sure they'd never lightly "boot" Milne from the book, when he is so many people's favorite.

And on a side note, I do not share your opinion of Livio. He's underrated, imo. He was literally the only decent thing about the entire Titans Return event, for example.
