most of us know there is only one TF movie at the moment. i'm talking about a cut of the five faces of darkness episodes made into one long tv movie. i heard about this years ago and the thread about g2 and "rebirth the movie" reminded me of this. anyone else know/heard/seen this at all?
I agree... lol... I always just viewed em as a Mini-Series... Although it's one damn wicked mini-series, imo. JS.
The UK VHS I own of Rebirth edits it all into a single episode. Same for my copy of More than Meets the Eye from the day, that one is called "Arrival from Cybertron". Never heard of an edited Five Faces of Darkness, but I think the VHS releases of some of the other two parters fused the different parts together.
Five faces was released on VHS but it wasn't called TFTM 2 Now there was a tape with "Dark Awakening" and "The Return of Optimus Prime" edited into one episode called "Tranformers the movie 2: the return of optimus prime" though google is giving me a hard time proving this, I did rent it from a Blockbuster video circa 1989.
Yeah I agree...Season 3 had some kick-ass writing...too bad they all got the crappy animation and the great animation had the craptacular storylines Though they got it lined up right for Carnage in C Minor
I have a VHS of The Return of Optimus Prime (both parts) that is described on the back as the epic sequel to Transformers the movie. HAH!
I think the story behind this tale was a rumor ( possibly true ) about how back in the day, there was gonna be no season 3. Following the movie, they were planning some straight to video movies. FFoD was the script to the second movie ( first direct to video ). Since the first movie tanked at the box office, they broke it up into episodes and put it on TV. Rushed episodes ( due to the last minute change of plans ) quickly followed which is why they have such crappy animation. This is also why Dark Awakening was a pretty early episode. They just needed to put Prime back into an ep to apease the kiddies. At least that is how I recall hearing it a few years ago.
I used to have the FFOD VHS, but as people have said it was all five episodes, not one continous movie. Still, that's interesting if they were ever considering it for theatrical release. BTW, was G.I. Joe the Movie the first ever direct to VHS movie since it never got its theatrical release? If so, that's kinda interesting trivia, eh?
I think Hasbro should do what Marvel has is doing, and release animated direct to dvd features ala Ultimate Avengers. They could do a proper sequel to G1 season 3, and fix the problems that occured. Kill off Optimus prime for good (heroically, of course) and have Hot Rod become leader again.
