How about a comparison including a Madman blu ray version?

I thought the Madman and Metrodome versions used the same transfer/encode. Is that not the case?

I thought the regular Blu Ray release's second disc was the DVD version, not a widescreen disc and was just about to ask everyone here how to change to widescreen because it's not on the menu.....

Happy with this release, my only gripe would be if we could have gotten all the features from the Sony DVD. Oh well.

Watched it last night with the 2yr old. Start 'em young

I just noticed Vudu has it listed for $10 HDX :VUDU - Watch Movies

If you're a T-Mobile subscriber you can use your Tuesday credit to get a deal.

The artwork on the steelbook (and menus) looks great but I agree that the Digi Copy should have been UV copy but oh well.

I watched the SF Blu Ray last night on my Samsung UN65JS9000 (calibrated) using XBOs and didn't notice the washed out colors from the previous screen shots but maybe I was focusing too much on the detail to notice.

If you guys noticed the image looking a bit washed out. The source was improperly encoded at 0-255 PC levels rather than "legal" 16-235 video levels, so any areas in the image that should be black are dark gray.

Can we get a petition started with Shout so they can fix the encodes and get a disc exchange program started?

Maybe that's why there are so few copies in the wild.

So are we now ready to start talking about the 40th Anniversary edition of the movie? :)  I'm hoping that we'll be up to a holographic projection of the movie by that time. By the time the 50th anniversary edition rolls around we may all have our own exo-suits.

Shouldn't that cause the greys to be too dark? Dark grey instead of black happens in the opposite scenario, when you incorrectly send a "limited RGB" image to a "full RGB" display. The reverse should create a "crushed shadows" effect.

Is it possible black parts now look dark gray as a result of the HD transfer/restoration? I'm an idiot as far as this technical stuff goes, so just guessing here.

I just watched it for the first time. That's a shame about the blurry fishing scene. I noticed that some parts looked more grey (instead of black) than I remembered. Also during the end credits, you can really see the whole background image shaking from the slight differences in each frame shot.

The sound was great though. Overall, this seems like the best version so far (I also have the 20 year anniversary DVD and the Madman Bluray). I'm happy with the purchase.

Bestbuy.com had the regular edition blu-ray back in stock, so I ordered it. I really wanted to find a copy in person, but figured I better not take any chances. Bummer that this movie is available on Vudu, yet the blu-ray set itself doesn't come with a digital code that works on Vudu.

So the fishing scene is blurry? That sounds disappointing.
