Don't mean to start a flamewar but color models and cels show Hot Rod was always a deep magenta color. I wouldn't use the word "pink" as I would say Arcee was more what I would call pink. But compared to flat red (used for Optimus, Magnus, Perceptor, and Autobot symbol on Hot Rod's chest), Hot Rod was always more purplish red in hue.

In the TV series they typically colored Rodimus Prime more dark red in color though at the end of the movie he's still the same color as he was as Hot Rod.

Yes the released toy was red. Someone at Hasbro in 1986 probably said that boys wouldn't buy a 'pink' car toy and they changed it in between prototype and final version. Ever since Hasbro has pretty much always released Hot Rod/Rodimus toys in red and pretended he was never magenta. Takara/Tomy knows better, though.

I have to disagree with you thinking he was or meant to be pink. Like Silvershot said, he was red/magenta. I seen the movie when it came out in 86 and he was red. I have the metronome Blu-ray and his color there, is it think correct. Which to my eye's is magenta. Or red, but certainly never pink. The toy was red, because that was the idea from the start. I Ike Silvershot, I seen pretty much all the vhs and dvd's. There is just no Way Hasbro wanted Hotrod to be pink. If they wanted a pink Transformers, they would have made and released Arcee as a toy. I don't watch the previous 86 movie pre release anymore. I watch the U.K metronome Blu-ray. The picture is very crisp and imo is true to the origami color correction. Nice and vibrant. Not perfect, but sharper and much better then any vhs or dvd. And I'm that's why I'm so excited for this new release.

When people say Hot Rod is pink, they don't mean "Arcee bubblegum pink," they mean a darker, magenta shade of pink. And that was the colour he was always supposed to be. He's that colour in animation (including not just the film, but the cartoon, and any commercial animation), with only VHS and unremastered DVD transfers making him look a darker reddish colour; his character model being that colour is the reason he's a pinkish-purple in the Marvel comics, and both the 1986 toy catalogue and the commercial for the Sharkticon toy show the original Hot Rod toy in its intended magenta colors before it was changed to being red. The stickers on the sides of the toy are still pink, instead of red, reflecting the original intent.

Watch any episode of the TV series in which Rodimus turns back into Hot Rod, and you'll see quite clearly that he goes from a maroon-red color to a lighter magenta color as he changes form.

I love the first part of this idea. Redo the original series in cell shaded CGI a bit like the new Devastation game. But keep the original designs and voices. Don't start mucking around trying to create new alt or bot modes for anyone.
If you just redo the animation in cell-shaded CGI without actually trying to create new bot or alt modes etc, you get to keep the original story, keep the amazing voice and sound effects, but update the rather tired animation. It also gives you a chance to correct all those animation errors and wonky Funimation screw-ups. This would be the best of all worlds. The voices are iconic for G1 fans and the look and design of the characters can remain the same. Kind of the next step up from the cool stop motion "MP Reanimated" remakes that Optimus Timelord does.

If you live in a world where magenta isn't a shade of pink, sure.

Given the high polygon count of CGI (and high cost) it would be far cheaper to make Machinima using the existing Devastation game engine / cut scenes.
    Be awesome to see.
A fan project would be more likely and realistic than a professional official CGI production given the massive cost and person hours involved to actually create it.
We've come a long way from Toy Story, Reboot and Beast Wars.
Those shows/films as great as they were don't even look as good as the average video game cut scene these days.
Meanwhile modern CGI films have ballooned in high quality textures, higher polygon count, smoother looking character model etc. And they also have whole teams of people working incredible amounts of hours to make them.

    Not really. Wikipedia says:

I know you're not supposed to take everything on wikipedia at face value, but this is pretty straightforward.

Pink is red plus white. No blue.

It's technically a shade of red in the RGB color space. However, if you're working in a CMY color space it's Magenta that's a primary color.

In either color space, it's pink that's the derivative color.

If this is truly the level of pedantry we're at, guys, pink is actually a "shade of red" too. So.
