VIZ: Read a Free Preview of Transformers: The Manga, Vol. 1
im seeing a lot of Japanese, I thought this was an English translation ?
Lettering is one of those important elements of comic publishing you never think too much about. It’s really interesting to here the process of what’s involved.
"We are Transformers from America!"
As opposed to all those Transformers from Uzbekistan that keep showing up I guess.
I'm reading my copy and I have 1 question: is Rumble the b&w one or the b&w one?
Rumble is black and white
Frenzy is white and black.
Photographically reversing pages was a standard until about two decades ago when Dark Horse published the Star Wars manga and had to to keep explaining why the Millennium Falcon was backwards to everyone who had never read manga before. It really hasn't been done since then unless the original work read left to right.
This would effect Megatron and Galvatron too.
Agreed. It took me about ten pages to get used to the flow of the comic. Thankfully, the numbers at the bottom of the page go in “reverse” order, so that helps.
Flipping the images would be a bad idea, especially with the two-page spreads. I’ve dabbled in making my own comics, and I can tell you that flipping a drawing completely changes the intended flow of the artwork—it doesn’t look right.
I read a lot of manga and would have been pretty annoyed if they had flipped the art. For those with reservations, I promise you that you get used to it after a few pages.
But how awful would it have been for asymmetrical designs like Megatron if they had flipped it?

I started reading this yesterday and I gotta say I love how out-and-out goofy it is. I love the fun it has with a lot of concepts, such as the numerous sub-teams within the Autobots (so there's a team for the Minibots, but also some of the Minibots are on a team with Hound and Trailbreaker exclusively for four-wheel-drive vehicles?) and the weird brotherly bond between Magnus and Optimus. I also love seeing where the genesis of the Cybertron Net from Car Robots came from, as the Autobots also have a weird underground network of tunnels and roads to get around. So far the manga takes everything I loved about the JG1 continuity and makes it even sillier somehow, and I'm here for it.
I read the one about the combiner tag team match. That made me laugh to no end when the Autobots took the places of Bruticus' and Menasor's legs! These comics remind me of what I used to do as a kid.
I loved that story of the Four wheel drive team! And the manga had an appearance of the Omnibots!
When I was kid I made a team of Rescue vehicles (before I had the Protectobots) of Ratchet, Red Alert, Prowl and Inferno.
Okay, I was both shocked to see that and then equally shocked to see the Ultra Magnus watch in response! Those watches got reissued for some reason during G2 and I would wear Magnus to school all the time.
Yeah these stories are kinda...out there.
That one kid with the Galvatron wrist-watch. All I could think of was: "This kid is going to grow up to write one of the IDW books, isn't he?"
And this series as a whole doesn't suffer from episodic entries - - it suffers from clearly being very short segments in TV Magazine.
Also, did they accidentally call Tracks "Trucks"?
Just finished reading Volume 1, and cannot wait for the next volumes. Time to retire my old omnibus now.
Fantastic! It’s like being handed a DVD of a bunch of eps that I’ve never seen. I own a lot of TF comics but this is by far my favorite. Wow!
Isn’t Amazon schedule for vol. 2 next week?
Do you think it will ship on time?
