No, it's not - people argue against the crass humor in Transformers because it is out of place. This is a franchise built around selling children's toys, if it actually needs to resort to adult humor as filler between plot progression then there is a complete disconnect between the actual target audience of the franchise as a whole and those who are making the films.

Pulp Fiction is not written with any pretext of being appropriate to show to children, so as an adult oriented film to begin with

Funny, that means you would thus respect anybody to have the right to do the opposite against the films. Including me, but you seem to actively try to negate my presence here nonetheless.

You literally recommend softcore borderline robot porn in this thread to a minor in a later post after this one - a thread where you obsess over actual robot genitalia as enlightened subject matter and proudly advertise it like everybody on this board doesn't already freakin' know about it by now is kind of alarming to put it mildly.

You really think kids should know what 'teabagging' is? Or better yet, make parents have to describe a sexual act to their kids because the movie that's a giant toy commercial is actively demonstrating it?

Logic and Reason are checked in at the door to the movie forums for a reason. It doesn't matter what is actually solid evidence or complete baseless assumption, the latter is always treated more respectfully than the latter if necessary to keep the films on a golden pedestal around here.

ITS FUCKING HENTAI FOR GODS SAKE.

I keep seeing comments like this and it's bullshit. Transformers may have started out as a simple toy commercial for children but it has, like many other things evolved over the decades. A large segment of the toy buying crowd are adults buying for themselves. The movies are clearly rated, and part of that rating includes a general description of why it is rated that way. If you are a parent taking your small child to a movie rated PG-13 and find your self uncomfortable that you have to explain to your 6 year old what a scrotum is that's you own damn fault. PG-13 unmistakably means the following:

"parents strongly cautioned, a rating in the Voluntary Movie Rating System indicating that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13."

    "FUCKING HENTAI," you say?

Language! Come on, man...there are children present, ffs.

Haha, anyway. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but the G1 fanbase from the mid-80s is mostly around 40 years old now and the movies are PG-13. I'd say that's a pretty fair compromise in terms of ratings vs. audience. Transformers fans DO come in all ages, after all. And, again, edgy humor and racy content has been with the franchise since its earliest days. I don't think anyone killed themselves because they heard Spike say, "Oh, shit!"

And I'd imagine anyone who's spent more than five minutes here already knows that the franchise is NOT specifically just about "selling children's toys." For every Chomp & Stomp Grimlock or Quick Changer there's likewise a MP toy or a Prime1 Studios statue that costs an arm and a leg and then some. It's pretty clearly not some kids saving up their allowances who are buying those so they can play with them in the sandbox, lol.

Frankly, I think YOU'RE the one who's confused about the target audience here.

And for the live action films it's obviously teenagers. Adults and younger kids too, sure. But they're rated PG-13 for a reason.

And, yeah, I'd basically recommend "softcore borderline robot porn" to pretty much ANYONE because it's hilarious! Some of it was actually really well done, too. Most of that stuff would just go right over their heads anyway so it's w/e.

    No biggie!

What I look for in a transformers movie is an extended scene on a 20 year """Irish""" guy with a red bull deal getting intimate with a 17 year old girl and flipping out a laminated card of a law that says it's ok for him to do so out of his wallet, and masterbation jokes. I also love seeing genitals on robots.

What? No, seriously, what? That only at best applies to the last decade, because the first decade amounted to G1 rising and then falling off into the short lived G2 and then Beast Wars, the following decade dominated by the Unicron Trilogy which was anything but an 'evolution' over the toy-hocking purpose of the franchise (hell, Energon itself was the 20th anniversary line), and then from 2007 on we have the movies.

    Remind me why Alternators failed.

It's live-action violence so it would get the rating regardless. But then that gets into the territory of 'just because you can, does not mean you should.' Like, the films have done humor on a far higher bar like the entire Scorponok battle sequence with Lennox trying to buy minutes in the middle of a firefight to contact the Pentagon, or the infamous tighter shirt. We shouldn't need to be going into goddamn Flapjack territory where humor is only rated in how disgusting and crude the jokes are for the sake of being disgusting and crude.

Why do you automatically assume Devastator using his wrecking balls (or counter weights, thanks CKPRIME) is a sexual act? To a Cybertronian like Devastator it would simply be using a part of his body as weaponry and not a sexual act. And who said it would be "tb-ing?" There's a big difference between tb-ing and Devastator hypothetically using his counter weights as weapons to crush Autobots and humans.

Irrelevant. The franchise has objectively evolved over it's life span, that is undeniable.

Did it fail? Or did it just run it's course? It doesn't matter anyway. Explain the popularity of $100 plus Masterpiece figures or as Hazekiah pointed out $2000 plus dollar statues.

    [/QUOTE]

So don't watch the movies, no one is forcing anyone to watch them. Your point that the Transformers movies shouldn't have "crude and disgusting" humor is still bullshit.

    Funny, doesn't evolution imply change?

Which the movies have made quite clear is against its objectives with this silly cinematic sequel-vese?

Trick question - technically it's on "infinite hiatus" since 2005. But the closest we ever got to them again was Human Alliance which was very popular until AoE decided to not continue it.

    Before or after import costs?

And those are sold at what mass retail stores exactly?

So you're saying it is impossible to have Transformers without the kind of humor to be expected from an Adam Sandler film ala Eight Crazy Nights then?

Are you going to argue that the Transformers franchise is exactly the same now as it was in 1984?

How many parents do you think are buying Masterpiece figures or two thousand dollar statues for their five year olds? It doesn't matter where they get them from the point is that there is a thriving demand for adult oriented Transformer merchandise.

No, but it's not your place to tell Michael Bay what jokes he can or can't put in his own movie. Yelling about sparing the children just makes you sound like Maude Flanders.

Especially if said writer's room brings nothing new or cohesive to the table. . .Writer's Rooms are nothing new. . .Nor are they an automatic indication of better quality. . .

I just saw Fantastic Beasts in IMAX and saw the featurette. I love seeing the audience reaction when Bayformers surprised them in IMAX.

The footage looked great though. I hope they continue to push the 10 year anniversary aspect in TLK's marketing.

    Haha...me, too!

And, again, the G1 comics and cartoons had Buster and Spike CONSTANTLY making out with his ballerina gf and getting all flirty before getting his wife pregnant, not to mention all the interspecies love stories in both mediums, too.

So what's wrong with a legal relationship between two kids only three years apart compared to THAT?

Hell, several Autobots were paired off with gf-type relationships (don't even get me started on Elita-1's "special power" or how Optimus revives her, lol) plus Octane was caught looking at mecha-porn...so where's the harm in a simple joke about Devastator's junk?

Speaking of which, most kids being taken to TF movies by their parents are young boys so it's unlikely they'd need a joke about enemy scrotum explained to them. And if they DO, well...that the fault of their parents.

And New Rule: If you can't even spell "masturbation" properly then you're not allowed to criticize the writers of the movies for making a couple quick jokes about it, lol.

Also, these ARE PG-13 movies...what better target audience for jokes about masturbation?

Oh, and the actor who played Shane actually IS Irish and that IS his real accent, btw.

Look guy, call me a prude or whatever, but that does not seem like good content too put in a movie about robot guys, gals, and non-binary pals, that just seems bad. I don't want jokes about sex in transformers, I don't care what the MMPA, PEGI, ESRB, the BBFC, or the G.A.R.F.I.E.L.D rate it, it just doesn't seem good. I don't want to watch something and think "here's a guy that's working out his sexual frustatrations via a transformers movie."

It's all about relevance...if you're not getting it you ain't relevant. If you're getting annoyed by it then they don't want your attention

They're these awkward inappropriate moments in all the TF movies, that were supposed to be funny but fell flat with at least 50%* of the audience.

I'll concede that of all of them, Dev's nuts were probably the least inappropriate for younger viewers, I mean to be fair, most kids have a giggle when they see a Doberman walk past with massive plums banging about behind him.

To me the problem is indicative of the errors these movie make as whole. For example, with CG st a premium, they waste a lot of time and money on silly things, diminish the Decepticon presence, and my earlier concession granted, offer humour that doesn't quite understand it's demographic, and just isn't really that funny.

There are more reasons, check the movie forum. ;)

Well despite the opinions on the sexual jokes, Bay seems to be toning them down. If you compare AOE to the previous films, while it still contained adult jokes, there seemed to be much less of them. This might fall into line with my suspicions that Bay is caring more for the material he's working with due to the franchise growing on him over the constant years. Like I said, he has definitely changed from the guy who signed onto the first movie just because it would give him the chance to work with Steven Spielberg. Whether or not you agree with the improvement he has been making all comes down to opinion since we all have our ideas for what the ideal Transformers storyline is.

The only sex joke I remember from AOE was the working the stick line, which the joke was Cade's interpretation of his line rather than Shane making an actual innuendo.

Like I said my biggest problem is that he doesn't use them enough. He should have used them as weapons. If you're going to show wrecking balls, then they should be used to wreck things. Which I guess would be connected to my biggest problem with Devastator as a whole: he wasn't used enough. And I know his time on screen is going to be limited simply due to his massive size and CGI design, but I would have loved to see him go on a wrecking ball rampage through the desert of Egypt.

Most people laughed in the theater when I saw ROTF in 2009, then again humor is pretty subjective. I guess my humor isn't the most mature in the world.

Exactly why it's beyond me that they would waste it getting robot testicles to dangle in a realistic way.

yeah, sounds a bit like Pom Poko! lol

Not just the individual, but the timing and place. I might laugh my ass of at a necrophilia joke down the pub, but i probably wouldn't go home and tell my family it around the dinner table!
