Confirmed for Rogue One
The thing that makes me annoyed when people criticize Bay for his type of humor, is that if you look at the critically acclaimed movies like Pulp Fiction, their humor is just as unnecessary yet that movie is upheld. So many movies are acclaimed by critics as film masterpieces yet they have the same corny toilet humor Bay somehow can't get away with. It's like if the movie is an Oscar-baiting feature than its toilet humor is okay, but if it's by Michael Bay it's cool to hate.
Spielberg himself, for instance, wrote and directed LITERAL toilet humor into Lincoln with the Ethan Allen anecdote scene, where Lincoln JUST SO HAPPENS to pour himself a cup of coffee from hip-height as he relates the tale of Ethan Allen visiting a "water closet" to do his business, lol.
A phallic symbol pee joke in Lincoln, ffs!
I don't know man, Devastator having testicles was a bit too much for my taste.
No offense, but is that the only thing you can come up with? Have you seen Pulp Fiction?
Of course I've seen Pulp Fiction, all I'm saying is that the over-sexualization of a kids toy makes me a little uncomfortable. Also, Pulp Fiction may have crass humour, but it also has lots of other things going for it; it's not held up in great esteem because of its crass humour. Bay's Transformers films on the other hand don't really have lots going for them, making the crass humour even more grating.
Okay but what about everything else apart from Devastator?
Honestly, when people watch Pulp Fiction they laugh at the crass humor as if it's an element of entertainment. Yet when that same humor is transferred to Transformers it immediately becomes awful. So it's like if a pretentious movie has it it's a-okay yet if another film like Transformers does it's not. Michael Bay's implemented humor in the TF films could've bee inspired by the humor in Pulp Fiction.
People are just not honest or authentic. What bothers me is just how people get at the TF films for the same wrongs of other films that they uphold. Admitting that a movie may have more going for it than another is one thing, but dismissing and even upholding cons of one movie that you criticize in another is BS. I'm not trying to attack you personally, it's just that you replied. My response is more broad to all the people who feel the way about humor in critically acclaimed movies versus humor in TF.
Ever heard of Kiss Players...
Who me? If so, no I haven't. What is it?
Always the same argument of 'its okay in other films so it should be okay in transformer films' - why is it never an argument of how crass humor should be kept due to what you folks think it adds to the subject matter that would be lost otherwise?
To put it simple, Transformers kissing human girls so they could "power-up". yeah this was a thing
Because that's irrelevant. I'm not discussing the context of crass humor. I'm discussing the bare existence of it. Although you do bring up a good point. I find that in both films, Pulp Fiction and TF whenever crass humor is present, it derails the scene from the plot and I always feel less engaged.
On a side note, I will continue to argue in favor of the films whether it pleases you or not. I have a right.
I already covered that angle pretty extensively in my thread about Devastator's wrecking balls.
(Conveniently linked to below in my sig, btw! Recommended reading, lol.)
I think Devastator's wrecking are hilarious and in no way detract from the film.
I have stated this several times before, but my only complaint about the wrecking balls are that they are not seen and used enough. Devastator should have gone "Last Knight" and used them as a medieval mace against the Autobots.
Devastator as a Knight using his wrecking balls as weapons? I love it!
If I am remembering correctly, it's been a while since I watched RoTF but they are not wrecking balls. They are counter weights.
Have you seen the special features for Revenge of the Fallen? Because there's a part where Bay asks the special effects guys to add testicles on Devastator because he thinks it'll be hilarious, I don't think there was any deeper meaning implied.
Damn I'll look that up. Was it a machinima or fan fic thing?
Manga, I think
^ Yeah, it was manga, toys, and a radio show...all of which are official and HILARIOUSLY awesome, lol.
Definitely worth checking out!
Of course I have!
But I stand by my thread.
