IGN has posted their reviews of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Transformers game. The game has scored a 5.7. Here's a few snippets:

"While it's not a complete disaster, Transformers is a cluttered mess. Despite reminding me of Hulk's Ultimate Destruction with its "obliterate everything" motto and open world design, its quality isn't anywhere near as comparable."

"Transformers' "open world" isn't really that freeform either. When compared to Hulk, Grand Theft Auto, or Activision's own Spider-Man franchise, the environments and mission selection is as small and linear as it gets."

"The game also suffers from a number of strangely designed tasks and poor pacing. "

Drats. This makes it much more difficult for me to consider spending $70 CAN on a game. I love Transformers, but I also love paying for something not surrounded by mediocrity. :(

To each their own though! I guess I'll have to give this at least a rent.

Wait till we get more reviews... IGN's scores are to be taken with a grain of salt. Remember, one man's good game is another man's poor game. In the official release thread, another review scored the game 83%.

So some will find this fun and some will find it crappy. The only way to find out if it's for you is to play it. If you're not going to shell out the dough for it without being sure, then I'd recommend renting it first.

I've come to the conclusion that IGN only Plays/Watches/Reads the first 10 minutes of anything to make thier decision. No one was expecting Game of the Year stuff here, but it's incredibly obvious the right people were making it. stuff that can be found in the first city area include:

    Metroplex Mall
    Seasprays Fish & Chips
    Chip Chases PC repair
    Hounds Hot Dogs

I'm more interested in the Wii version now. The graphics aren't much better in the other versions anyway.

I guess it depends what kind of 'gamer' you are.
If you're seeking a rich, immersive experience that will draw you into a compelling world for long-term thrills then this game probably isn't for you (and it's
doubtful it was ever going to be)

If, on the other hand, you want a pretty hands-on blast to wile away the odd half-hour then it may well fit the bill. I'm in the latter category so will still give it a spin.

it's a movie game AND one based on a cartoon. Of course it's going to be mediocre.

Yep, I'm not into this whole hardcore realistic shooter like Resistance Fall of Man stuff, I want something fun I can just muck around with and to play around with. Something that's fluff, easy to pick up and has some fun gameplay elements. I'm an old school gamer who's gone from Sega Genesis to PS3 (and everything in between) who misses old school games, and I'm hoping that this delivers on some more of the elements that are missing in games today. Like loose driving that's just fun and beat-em-up bouts with baddies. Sometimes it's the things that nobody wants to do anymore that's the most fun and from the sounds of it, this game fits the bill of what I'm looking for in a game.

Meh, the truth is after I had read a couple articles on the games some time ago, I was only looking forward to the handheld versions. The console versions didn't sound interesting at all to me, so I kind of expected this. And yes, it is true that IGN can't be bothered to play any more than 30 minutes of a game before reviewing it.
It's a shame the PSP version didn't get good response either, I was really looking forward to the G1 content.

I'm sure that most people who review this won't be viewing it the same as we are, either. To them, maybe they're a light TF fan, maybe not, but im sure the average person won't geek out over the TFs in it the same way we will.

Then the budget gameplay should be matched by a budget price.

It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was certainly a giant leap above every prior TF based game. That's not saying much tho. At least we don't have Superman's track record for crap games.

well judging by all the bad things he said.. there's one thing that underneaths all.
He is a G1 Fanboy who can't let go of the past.

I may skip getting my CE 360 version, I am one of the few people that arent enamored with with DS version, and that one seems to have gotten the best well...fan reviews.

when I played the DS version..I experienced crappy lock on targeting, frustrating..missions where if I fouled up once its game over (blackout chase)
(escort mission) one wrong turn or hesitation and its back to 2 missions ago

and even more irritating, is that they make you not only replay the section you failed, but the sequence before that one also..AND you have to trek back to the mission marker..lame!

That and strafing a round a boss while waiting for my laser to recharge is no fun at all....this might be fine for 20 bucks, but if the console version is as bad(and it sounds worse), at 70 bucks count me out

and WHY is it anytime a reviewer gives a game a not so great score, there is always a sect of that fandom that SWEARS the reviewer/site is biased? By and large I find gamespot and Ign, and to a lesser extent EGM and PSM to be pretty reliable, and usually all their scores fall within a point or so of each other

The only review magazines I dont trust are gamepro and Play- that magazine gives glowing reviews to ANYTHING

That's OK. I am only getting a PS2 version and I'm not much of a gamer. If I get to run around as a TF I'd be happy enough. Just hope camera angles won't make me giddy.

I like this game. If anything, I think it may be too easy. I failed missions several times, and I'm like on one of, if not the, last mission as an Autobot, and I've only been playing for 3 or so hours.

But trust me, they're called boss battles for a reason.....
