Looks like this was planned to be the followup to Armada when we instead ended up getting Energon. Looks like some different Optimus Prime designs from that era too.
More pics and info found on the Facebook post. Archer even commented on it which is also pretty interesting.

 

I really dig the almost "Universe" storyline vibe it has, too. Really wish that would have been more fleshed out in other fictions.

 

Damn, loving those Chonkimus Prime designs.

Perhaps a supposed sequel to Armada. It might explain the planned Minicon to Omnicon Evolution concept.

I would've, and still would,buy that Optimus.

 

These two are definitely my favorite. Hope someone out there can make a figure of any of these designs.

 

That would be a cool toy, especially if they use glow-in-the-dark plastic for the "Glow-up energy mode"

 

Interesting how they reworked the story concept as the background for “Universe” 1.0 - makes me wonder if they originally might have planned for Universe to “supplement” the main line instead of being off in its own little corner.

Omnicons being powered-up Minicons makes a lot more sense then how they were handled in Energon too.

it’s so cool when these kind of details leak out and you get a peak behind the curtain into the development process.

 

And it also makes sense given the whole with Linkage planning to use that idea. But yeah, that's a question for people to ask Aaron Archer about. The whole original story concept for Universe 1.0 and all.

 

Absolutely fascinating, love this kinda stuff.

 

I would've really liked having that Optimus in my collection. Such a husky fellow.

 

Now THAT would have been a badass Armada OP. I dig that.

 

Well, technically a badass Energon/Superlink OP, but yeah. That would be an amazing mold. I wonder what they had planed/drawn for other characters like Hot Shot, Red Alert, Starscream, Megatron, Demolishor, Cyclonus and a few others.

 

Lol..my bad... This one would have beaten any of the UT OP designs, IMO...even Cyb.
