Tbh as someone who still has no perceptor, the new one just looks like titans returns Perceptor but with less play features.

It’s less about defending less stuff for your dollar, people just like to blindly defend anything new or anything they like whether it makes any sense to or not.

I never said it was a good thing, I'm just attempting to give an explanation.

That's a fair assessment since there's really only so many ways you can do a G1 Perceptor. But the fact that this one doesn't have the headmaster gimmick is actually a plus for me. Titans Return was overall a great line but I don't have a single one of the figures because that gimmick just isn't at all for me. And the proportions on this one look miles better than the TR figure imo

Visually, it looks like the cartoon and that's great, but I love how he glosses over Titans Return's version with a passing mention and says the 2010 version is second place to this one. My gosh, I normally don't call out opinions and say they're wrong but for some reason, this grinds my gears and I have to. The TR version, Headmaster and all is second place and the 2010 version is a distant third. Part of the reason some of us collect these would be the visuals and how close they are to the original cartoon. This and the TR version do that. The 2010 version doesn't at all. Now, if you want him to be a half-track, more power to you and I get why people like that idea in the 2010 version, but so many act like the TR version simply doesn't exist and they try to ignore it and step around it and that doesn't work for me.

TR might not be perfect due to the gimmick (I get it, people don't like the idea at all) but it's better than the 2010 version and then some.

EDIT: Argh! Some of my post is missing. Must've hit my touchpad when typing. (It'll wipe out entire posts if I'm not careful.)

    I meant to add this:

While I like the visuals of this version and I don't particularly care for or use the tank mode, it's nice to know it's there if I want to use it. In some ways, the TR version is better than this one because the chest plate doesn't snap/ratchet when you move it (unlike the SS86 version does), the modes seem to work better on the TR version, and somewhat of a deal-breaker is the lack of a "functioning" microscope. Honestly, I'm guessing almost none of us used it, but it did work to some degree and it was a fun nod to the original toy. To gut something fundamental out of it just takes away from the experience for me. I'm not 100% sold on this version of Perceptor.

I don't have either, But TR has no real place for his head to go, so it's an absolute no for me

My TR peerceptor had a really bad head-connector. THe head would just come out at any touch, and no matter how I positioned it or inserted the head-peg, the head would either bump up against the hinges for the lens cannon or just flop around. And yeah the headmaster had nowhere to actually go. So I'd say a figure that's generally as good with better articulation that ditches the headmaster gimmick would be superior.

I love the TR version. I like the idea of expanded lore that other Transformers eventually became Headmasters using robots instead of fleshlings.

I absolutely can’t stand the 2010 version. He’s a fiddly mess. I had no issues with a new alt mode (I like redesigns) but I felt he was just a bad toy.

2010 Perceptor would be way better if his arms/hood connected to his torso well, like, at all. That he transforms into a neat half-treaded vehicle is awesome, but, again, his robot does not hold together whatsoever. That puts him behind Titans Return just by default.

Technically doesn’t the TR one have more articulation? The only thing TR doesn’t have is waist and that weird leg breaking articulation if that even counts. Besides TR would have the same or more.

New one looks good still it just isn’t right to say it has more articulation. Unless I’m missing something.

I agree. I personally loved the Titan Returns line. It was fun with a lot of playability. My issue 2010 Perceptor was that he felt out of character. He looked like an unstoppable war machine.

The only clear advantave SS86 has is a better gun and lack of headmaster. Not enough to warant another $20 purchase. The TR version was already too close to perfection for a marked improvement

Funny enough personally, I feel the opposite I actually sold my TR version recently for the 2010 version and I like it better even though it looks less like the cartoon. I will get the SS 86 version at some point maybe but if they did a GS IDW1 version I'm in easily.

He's a terrible toy. The design looks great but the transformation is downright miserable and I've never been able to get his arms to peg in at all in robot mode so I just have to hope the hinge holding up his bumper/shoulder assembly remains strong enough. I can't wait to replace him with a Perceptor that actually holds together.

In regards to the 2010 mold, ive also never gotten his arms to fit back into truck mode quite right in addition to the crap robot shoulder situation.

    Cover your receptors, Perceptor!

Not sure if it's my memory but the head sculpt looks a bit off. Possibly going a bit more toy?

G1 toy Perceptor had a faceplate.

That's just the stylization at work. Honestly, none of the SS86 figures have had wholly accurate head sculpts. They're all just ever so slightly exaggerated.
