    Not really.

"Knows what he's doing" just means he, well, knows what he's doing. He's not a director who's, not to be cute, directionless. He knows how to make good, solidly structured movies.

Somewhat worried about what this will mean for Laika. That studio has some of the most talented artists and has produced the most incredible work, but it was always just a big vanity project for Travis Knight, bankrolled with daddy's money.

If Knight moves over to Hollywood blockbusters, one has to wonder whether they'll continue to sink money into animated features that never seem to turn a profit.

Not especially interested in the live-action films, although I might be interested if they were to do it as an animated film, or attempt the vfx with stop-motion. I know Laika could do that and make it photoreal.

Whatever they do, I hope he has creative control and isn't burdened with Bay's mess.

If this movie is scheduled to start filming in June then it sounds like a script is already complete.

I wonder how much influence this person will have over its current form.
I certainly don't want to see a talented new director get eaten up and spat out because he was put into a no-win position.

Kubo was actually well-made and artistic... so I don't know what he's doing anywhere near Transformers. :lol

Honestly with the bulk of his credits being in animation, and the constant alluding to Hasbro wanting to do an animated TF movie set on Cybertorn, I wonder if this will be it.

That's an interesting thought and would make a lot of sense, but the Deadline report states that it will be live-action directorial debut

Hmmm, you're right. Still, hoepfully this means more focus on VFX characters everyone's wanted.

Needless to say, I'm pretty excited.

A Transformers movie not directed by Michael Bay? Oh joy of joys! I thought we'd never see the day!

I want to think this might be a turn around for the Tf films, but I feel like the damage for this franchise(This current movie adaption that is.) has been done.

And with Bay still being on as producer this is basically just going to be seen as a Bay movie, much like with Ninja Turtles.

    Generally good news, I think.

I thought Kubo was probably the weakest of the Laika films (or maybe Box trolls), but it's still a respectable effort (something I can't say about any of bay's efforts- as much as I love them).

The biggest thing you should be worried about would be does he have any meaningful experience directing live action?

He'll probably be fine, and he's probably the best we could ever have reasonably hoped for. So Yeah!!!!!
